I took a chance on this Paiste 2002 Nova China Cymbal 20 Inch, much as I did my Paiste 2002 Power Ride 24", in that I bought it without first listening to it. I figured I could always return via GC's friendly policy. I was not however, disappointed. This odd "Nova" China is incredible. First, it can be rode as a ride since it has a clear "bell". As a ride it is trashy and noisy. It would never be your primary ride but for some boutique purposes its sound in this regard is uniquely satisfying. Second, as a China Crash, it is excellent. If you like the general category of Paiste 2002 alloy sound, this cymbal will make you very happy. It's attack is LOUD but its sustain is very short, resulting in a wonderful "breakthrough" crash that is powerful yet never overbearing. Third, they have done a good job on its shape. Like all good China's, its crash sound is dependent on where you hit it, and in this aspect its like having three different crash cymbals in one. Fourth, it looks pretty. If you tend to like the "copperish" look of the 2002 series, you'll see great beauty in this cymbal. In short, I am very happy with this cymbal and it has become a treasured part of my cymbal array.

I have a 20". It sounds amazing, it has some dark overtones and can take a beating. It's extremely versatile, you can ride it, or play the bell, or just plain wail on it. It's loud, and the best china I've ever played. Paiste has done it again!
