New 2017 PRS SE Custom 24 in Tompas Green

Like many, I don't typically write reviews. I have tons of American, Japanese, Korean and Mexican gear. (If that helps my credibility at all). Anyway I was never a fan of PRS, I was strictly a Fender, Gibson, Gretsch and Ibanez king of guy. Anyway, my local Guitar Center has a used PRS custom 24 and I picked it up and played on it for a while and fell in love with it. The guitar basically played itself! All the controls were Right where they are supposed to be and the neck felt unlike anything I ever played. Needless to say I could not afford the $3200 price tag on it. I went home and googled it and found out that PRS was releasing a new line of their SE models. I took a chance and ordered one before they were actually released.(I had to wait on them to be shipped from PRS to GC. It arrived yesterday and picked it up at Guitar Center. All I can say is this guitar blows away everything, I even compared it to the $3200 one still hanging in the store. The fit and finish is just as good and the fret work is impeccable. These 85/15 pickups sound better than the pickups in the $3200 one. This SE is a dream to play and sounds amazing, buy one you will not be disappointed. The fit and finish is better than my American Strat, Tele, Les Paul & SG. Now on a different note. This guitar will not sound like a Strat, Tele, Les Paul or an SG. It has its own beautiful voice. It's sounds full, warm and round. Never harsh, regardless of the position of the pickup selector. Also, when you split the pick ups, it actually sounds like a single coils and not like half of a humbucker. I love the easy access to the upper frets and yes frets 23 & 24 are actually playable. The bottom line is this guitar has great manners and is one of the best guitars that I've ever played. Buy one you will not regret it!

Love this guitar, had this for a month now, great feel great look, and amazing sound. I play a little of everything and this guitar sounds great for all of it. I got this even cheap at the store for 720. WHAT A PRICE! I highly recommend this guitar if you want a high quality guitar for under 1000. And for the tuning comment, I play every day 1 to 3 hours bending strings constantly, I tune it once a week, it's practically still in tune. I just have to give the knob a little touch. Only issue I had at first was the back of the neck took some time getting used to sliding up and down the board with the finish on it. But I easily adjusted after a few days. That's the only thing I could nitpick, but still not worthy of losing the 5 stars

there is nothing not great about this guitar. the comment about lack of tuning stability only tells me that this person does not know how to string or set up a guitar. I could throw mine down the stairs, pick it up, plug it in and it would still be in tune. I have a few guitars (Dean, Gibson, Ibanez) and they all get played a little less often now. Kudos to PRS for an affordable pro level guitar that is second to none.

I have played guitar for over 40 years, Played professionally during the 90's metal era. My old and Trusty Ibanez RG-570 has always been my favorite among all the guitar I own or have owned. I recently dethroned the Ibanez for PRS. I purchased my PRS a few weeks ago from the Charlotte, NC location.and it has changed my playing drastically in just a few weeks, The tones I'm getting from my current arsenal of amps and effects are unbelievable. I went to GC on a Saturday, At first, I found another Ibanez I was interested in purchasing, The following day, I drove back to GC under the pretense of purchasing the Ibanez..While "test driving" the ibanez..I noticed the PRS..It beckoned me...The moment I picked it up, I knew I would be taking it home.. Feels great, plays great, Sounds great...

  • Amazing guitar.

This fairly inexpensive guitar plays and sounds better that any other guitar I've owned! I am in my 70's and have been playing professionally for over 55 years; I've owned a 53 Gold top, an early 50's Strat, a 70's ES-335 and too many other guitars to mention. I've never truly been happy with a single guitar I've ever owned, although the 335 came close, but this guitar is the electric guitar I've been looking for all my life. I also own a Taylor 814ce and a very special 92 Artist Edition Ovation that my son gave me. This is probably the last instrument I'll ever buy as my collection of 5 is now complete with the Paul Reed Smith!

It's a very versatile guitar! It is great to play blues and metal. The second I plugged it in and played the first note, I was in love.

I see on a few different sites and here as well that people have complained about the tuning machines not staying in tune. Has PRS upgraded/fixed the issue? I am looking to switch from Schecter to PRS.

The tuning machines should not have any issues with this model

I know the customs are made in korea while the standard 24s are made in Indonesia. This custom 24 in red fireburst however says its made in Indonesia. Can you verify that for me ? And if so are all custom 24s in the se line being made in indonesia as well?.

The description on this is incorrect. This is made in Korea.

PRS makes some really good and versatile guitars and are always a safe bet. I would recommend stopping by the store and give a few different models a try and see what you like and don't like.
