PRS

Description

The Custom 24 is the quintessential PRS guitar. This iconic instrument was the first model that Paul Reed Smith brought to the public at PRS Guitars’ first Winter NAMM show in 1985 and has been a top seller ever since. Played by internationally touring artists, gigging musicians, and aspiring players, the Custom 24 features PRS’s patented Gen III tremolo system and PRS 85/15 pickups with volume and tone controls and a 5-way blade switch. 85/15 pickups were personally designed by Paul Reed Smith to offer remarkable clarity and extended high and low end.

The Custom 24 is the original PRS. Since its introduction, it has offered a unique tonal option for serious players and defined PRS tone and playability.

Ten Top
A very small percent of the maple trees cut in North America are actually figured. To make "10-Top" status, a PRS top must have clearly defined figure across its entire top with no "dead" spots. A guitar designated as a 10-Top will usually have a small "10" written on the back of the headstock in the upper right corner. Some of our earlier guitars have the "10" stamped into the finish in the same position.

The Custom 24 was my dream guitar for many years, ever since seeing ads for it in guitar mags as a teenager in the '80s. I was finally able to get my first in 2002 and recently obtained my second. I also own several other guitars including high-end US made Suhr, Charvel, ESP, EVH, Gibson and Japanese made Ibanez. The PRS feels the most natural to me... like it was made for my hands and body. In terms of styles of music I play, it is primarily 70s/80s hard rock but I occasionally play other genres like blues and funk. The CU24 can handle all of those and more. The pickups (85/15) have the perfect output for me - they are capable of big fat screaming tones but are not noisy or over-compressed. The 5-way selector is MUCH better than the old 5-way rotary knob they came with back when I purchased my first one, and allows enough tonal diversity for me, including split coil sounds which I prefer for clean tones. The Gen III tremolo has a very solid yet fluid feel to it and is probably my favorite non-Floyd Rose style bridge. To support it, we also have locking tuners, which are just like the old PRS ones where you basically can use a coin or large flat head screwdriver to tighten/lock. If you are buying a "10 Top" don't settle for a top you aren't happy with - I recommend asking for pics of your individual guitar before purchasing, if you are doing it online. I have seen some 10 tops that just look "okay" and some non 10-tops that actually look better (my 2002 was not a 10 top and looks fantastic). My last advice: make sure you pay attention to the neck profile when selecting the guitar. I prefer the "pattern thin" necks, and GC doesn't seem to have them as often as the "pattern" or "pattern regular" necks. The price online is a bit steep, especially considering what PRS CU24s used to sell for (and yes, I'm adjusting for inflation), so make sure you call and ask what they can do for you. Despite the price, if I could only play one guitar for the rest of my life, this is it

Is the image of the actual guitar? The Emerald green guitar shows damage on the body (crack on the left side) in the picture.

This is a stock photo, so it is not an image of the actual guitar.

What neck profile is the Custom 24 10 Top in Emerald Green?? It says Pattern on the website, however Custom 24's typically have pattern thin or pattern regular. I am interested in purchasing however Pattern Thins are too small for my hand. Thank you!
