I was attracted to the lightweight portability of the Nomad U-Bass. It is fine unless I want to play it above the octave frets, then it buzzes. Adjusting the truss rod did not fix the problem. My bad for not being more analytical when I tried it in the store. I might have declined it--though I prefer not to play that high up the neck on bass anyway. It just left me feeling kind of disappointed. When I googled it, fret buzz seems to be a problem with these. I guess I'm lucky it's only the highest frets.

Initially thought the preamp failed, but turns out that there's a switch triggered by plugging in & after a few insertions it freed up and now works. The Nomad plays/sounds great, akin to an upright with the plunkiness I associate with violin-style basses on flatwounds. #sweepstakes

The Kala Nomad has opened up a whole other way to approach playing bass. The sound is SO bouncy and fun! I've played bass since 1967, and haven't had this much fun in a long time. If you already play bass, the Ubass takes a MUCH lighter touch, but is very much as expressive as any other bass. There's a learning curve, but it's a sharp curve!

  • A lot of fun and a different sound

A great travel bass. Can pretty closely mimic an upright sound through an amp.

This bass is so very fun to play. I am actually jamming on it right now. You do not even need an amp to play it!!
