The Fishman Fluence Greg Koch "Gristle-Tone" single-width Telecaster pickup set is Multi-Voice. You can set and forget, or wire them up to toggle between two musically complimentary voices. They can be dropped right in to replace standard Tele pickups. Best of all, they are rechargeable on your guitar. The included lithium-ion battery pack offers weeks, not hours, of playing time.

Voice 1 – White-Guard: Open and airy, the sound of Nashville and Bakersfield, chicken pickin’ and the big strum
Voice 2 – Black-Guard: Fat & punch, searing sustain for undeniable Tele muscle

Get to know Greg Koch
An unsung guitar hero from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Koch grew up just a few miles from the birthplace of the late, great guitarist-inventor Les Paul. Much like Paul, Koch established himself within six-string circles as a masterful technician, accomplished clinician and general bad-ass guitar picker. So much so that guitar virtuoso Steve Vai liked what he heard and signed him to his Favored Nations label in 2001. Guitar Player magazine's Tom Wheeler once hailed him as "fiendishly talented" while other critics have called him everything from "a twisted guitar genius" to "the best kept secret in the guitar firmament."

As a leader of various bands bearing his name, Greg Koch has toured the world bringing the "Gristle" to the people. He continues to channel all the right people on his most recent collection of blues, funk and R&B, including Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Albert Collins, Jeff Beck and Roy Buchanan with touches of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Danny Gatton and Richie Blackmore thrown in for good measure. And he filters all those killer influences through his own slightly bent prism that is tinted with grunge, gristle and good clean fun.

And now, with this Greg Koch "Gristle-Tone" Telecaster pickup set you can have some of his signature shine.

In essence you have 4 pickups. You have no hum on any pickup & this is very evident in high gain. I switched out a Chopper T humbucker for these Gristletone pickups. I get the same sonic mayhem with driven tones but the high strings are fuller sounding. With having four pickups possible I can switch to a better arrangement depending on the amp or pedals. A great product!! Yes, the cleans are great. But for me, it's in the dirt these pickups shine.

  • Great Sound. Not a Direct Swap.

While I agree that the sound is very good for these and the wiring was pretty straight forward for anybody with a soldering iron. I feel that there should have been some more obvious installation instructions in the product literature and pictures of the back of the controls plate to show what you will have to work with once you get the Fluence Telecaster pickup package. The instructions did state that the insstallation would require the removal of the gound lug for clearance in the cavity. The reamining clearance did not allow room for the wires to run from the jack to the connection points. I did have to route out the cavity on my 2011 American Fender Telecaster to get it to work. Fair warning if your cavity has the raised portion in the middle with the gound lug you may have to remove wood to get this installation to work. If this is a deterrent to you, you may want to look elsewhere for replacement pickups.

I've owned my FSR Tele for 2+ years. There's a review on this site- fantastic. My only issue with the guitar was the buzz. Installation was easy. You remove all the electronics, pots, switches, wire, and plate [keep your knobs]. The control unit and battery are connected directly to the plate. The control unit has a 5 post circuit board; 2 posts for each pickup and 1 for ground. The plate would have dropped right in if I wanted to continue with the reverse control plate of the FSR, but wanted to go back to the standard switch on top, volume/tone below. So, it took 5 minutes with a router to clean out the opening in the body. Very easy. The improvement in sound was immediate. I could not believe the balance, articulation and clarity as compared to the stock pickups. I like the stock set, but they had a more RAW, unrefined tone. The bass was huge and a bit over powering. When I hit big chords with overdrive, the tone would get muddy which I initially attributed to the speaker in my Deluxe Reverb. After the pickup swap, the chords were clear and the clarity between strings was amazing. The two voices, at first, seem more like "standard" and "boosted." But, after a few months with them, you can hear both a 6-8 DB boost, but a tonal change as well. The Tim Pierce OD and KLON [clone] work great with the pickups, but my favorite is the Lovepedal Tchula. Give a listen to Josh Smith. The Fishman pickups sound a lot like the pickups in Josh's custom Chapin Tele. Of course, there are hundreds of Greg Koch vids for reference as well. A single charge of the battery lasts 1 month, playing the guitar daily. At that point, the red light starts flashing indicating 5 hours left. Overall, my experience with the GC FSR Ash Tele has been outstanding. It is the best guitar purchase I've made. With these pickups, is it now the least expensive and best sounding guitar I own. The GK Fishmans are the absolute best thing you could do to an inexpensive "player" guitar.
