'68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb Guitar Combo Amplifier
Description
The '68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb Amp pays tribute to the classic look, sound and performance of Fender's late-'60s "silver-face" amps. In a special twist, both channels boast reverb and tremolo, and the "custom" channel has a modified Bassman tone stack that gives modern players greater tonal flexibility with pedals. The amp also features quicker gain onset and reduced negative feedback for greater touch sensitivity. While fitting a sweet spot between the Deluxe Reverb and Twin Reverb, in respect to power and size, the '68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb's dual 10" Celestion TEN 30 configuration and 35 watts of all-tube power deliver distinctive rock ˜n' roll flavor.

Sounded awesome just needed more headroom
This is a great amp but I ended up switching up to the 68' twin reverb for more power and headroom. The vibrolux sounded great on both channels, I actually prefer the tone on vintage side with my jazzmaster but Overtime the custom side grew on me.The reverb tank on mine rattled like crazy, but that may have been from being a floor model and it being abused. I'd say this is the perfect amp for someone who wants a easy to carry amp that can keep up with a drummer, and provide fender cleans plus great fender breakup. It really starts tooverdrive at 4+ Which is kinda loud but nothing crazy. My drummer is a hard hitter and i was finding myself on 7-10 volume to really cut and fill the air in a power trio. And it sounded great with the right setting at that level but it's very overdriven at that point and would flub out if not eq'ed properly.the main reason I switched up to the 68 twin was to be able to play loud cleans parts as well as the beautiful overdrive parts with just my volume knob. but I was nervous I'd have too much headroom and not get that amazing overdriven fender sound without killing everyone in the room. The twin sounds surprisingly similar just much louder. It's still gets a vibrolux break up I loved but definitely need earplugs to get you there and a ts808 on clean boost or equivalent. Overall the twin is definitely worth the extra 100 bucks IF you need the extra watts, otherwise the average guy wanting a full range of great fender tones the vibrolux makes much more sense.

A Faded copy of the Original
I think it's the original Vibrolux is arguably one of Fender's best amps ever. Because of this it always seemed kind of strange that they never came out with a reissue to create the original magic. The advertising makes it quite clear that this is not a reissue but rather a customized reissue with earlier breakup. To me it seems more like a Frankenstein type recreation. To be fair their previous version, the Vibrolux Custom Reverb (built 1994-2013) was also a Frankenstein version of the original, although to me, seemed to have a much more successful outcome. Out of the box I would give the tone a solid C rating. It didn't sound like a Vibrolux and it didn't sound like a Marshall, it was sort of lost in no man's land somewhere in between with none of the personality or benefits of either. Almost sounded like a solid state amp. After many extensive tube and speaker changes as well as tube bias adjustments I got it to sound like a solid B, unlike the original it's just not a very vibey amp, and it still almost sounded like it wanted to be a solid state amp! At this point I have a theory as to why I could never get this amp sound better than so so. The first is the Bassman channel (which by the way does not really sound anything like a Bassman). The problem is if you're playing through the second "Vibrolux Channel" its tone is still being shaped by the 1st Bassman channel even though you are not plugged into it. I think this is what kills the Vibrolux channel's tone (it really needs both channels and tone stacks dedicated to just the Vibrolux tone for the real deal), The second theory is that it is the quality of components, the caps etc. may be not of the highest quality. I somewhat also suspect this as the many speaker and tube changes I performed only slightly changed the tone which to me indicated I wasn't really attacking the real problem. Of course it could be a combination of the two as well. Either way I ended up selling it.

This amp has tone. Wide-ranging tone. Now, while I have mostly been a hard-rock musician, I'm not a shredder. If speed metal and its descendants are your thing, this is probably not the amp for you. If you believe a little distortion goes a long way (after all, we practiced to actually play music on a guitar, not to rev a jet engine) and music sounds great with clarity and articulation mixed in --- then this very well may be the amp for you. My experience: It sounds fantastic with Teles and Les Pauls. Very nice sustain. And it sounds beautiful with my Gretsch. I have owned 5 Fender tube amps over some decades, and this is my favorite. (I am also quite partial to my Blues Jr. and my Deluxe Reverb.). I love this amp, and play it every day. It's gorgeous, lush but also very powerful. It sounds wonderful playing almost all genres of rock and blues, and lovely for jazz. The clear channel provides a foundation upon which you can build most anything. The Bassman channel starts with a little more grit; again, you can build a lot from there. It sounds great at low volume. And, yes, turned up it is very loud. When you drive it you also get its own distortion. Doesn't require a bunch of pedals to sound great, the only one I use frequently is a little delay. What more can you ask of an amp but that when you drive hot, it screams and when you want it to shimmer, it shimmers. I joke that this is the one I want to be buried with. I actually want to be buried with Sophia Loren.
Nice reissue amp..

I've played the Fender 68 Vibrolux custom for only about 3 hours now. And, generally I'm pleased so far. It seems to do everything I want it to do; 2 channels, reverb, vibrato, fairly loud and powerful for 35 watts. So far it's very quiet, no unwanted noise . I was a little concerned about headroom, but it stays very clean up to higher volumes . I tried it with a clean boost pedal also; resulted in plenty of clean headroom. I know some have doubts about modern Fender build & sound quality compared to their earlier amps .. I do. But, so far I'm fairly happy with it.. I does the ' fender thing' . How it would sound next to a '65 blackface, I don't know ? But; it's doing what I want it to do , and I guess that makes it worth it. Just hope I get long term service & reliability. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if you are looking for this type of amp.
Great Amp, highly recommend spending the extra money.

This amp is great, I previously used a Blues Junior and this amp is in a different stratosphere in terms of quality and build specs. If you are on the fence over which Fender amp to buy make sure you try this one before making your decision. I love my Blues Junior for what it does, but I would recommend spending the extra money over a Blues Junior or Blues Deluxe to get a real amp such as this (along with the Deluxe Reverb or Twin). I thought the Blues Junior had a great clean sound until I played this amp. This amp is a perfect mix between the Deluxe and Twin and is only 10 lbs heavier than my Blue Junior. It provides superb "Fender Cleans" and takes pedal well. A good transparent OD makes this amp inspirational. One last note, it sounds great out of the box.... I havent felt the need to change speakers or tubes like I did with my Blues Junior. I have had it to 6 (momentarily) it is still stayed mostly clean. Big low end, sparkling Fender cleans, great reverb, Love it and have found what I have been looking for. Buy this if you want a perfectly clean canvas and like Fender cleans. Dont buy if you want an amp with distortion. Lovely Fender product.
It's even better than I thought it could be!

I bought this as some others without playing one first , but no stranger to Fender tube amps. I've had a few and still have one other. still have two other solid state Fender amps. Love this one, the more I play it the sweeter it becomes! Speakers have opened up and broken in. I have changed out the original tubes, in the power section as well as the preamp tubes. It loves Sylvania 6l6gc STR 387 tubes as well as RCA Blackplate. power tubes, best are the Sylvanias. In the preamp side I've rolled several, stopping with smooth plate Telefunkens from the 60's. the sound of this amp is just 150% top flight sweet ! Everybody that likes the Fender tube amp line should own one of these 68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb! And for such a well built product as this the price point is right On! Ya'll keep on rocking!
