Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335: A Tribute to a Rock Legend

The stunning Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 semi-hollowbody guitar captures the essence of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl’s iconic tone. Developed in collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop, the DG-335 combines classic design elements from the ES-335 and Trini Lopez models, blending vintage style with modern performance. Whether you’re a die-hard Foo Fighters fan or simply looking for a versatile and powerful guitar, the Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 is built to deliver.

Trini Lopez-Inspired Design With Laurel Fingerboard

The DG-335 features a Trini Lopez-style headstock, which enhances string tension and tuning stability while adding a touch of retro charm. The laurel fingerboard is smooth and fast, while split-diamond inlays provide a sleek visual guide up and down the neck. The elliptical C-shaped neck profile ensures a comfortable, familiar feel, perfect for hours of play.

Semi-Hollow ES-Style Body With Diamond Soundholes

This Dave Grohl Epiphone guitar combines the resonant qualities of a semi-hollowbody with the durability of a layered maple top and body. The chambered mahogany body reduces weight without sacrificing tone, while the diamond-shaped soundholes enhance the guitar’s resonance and add an elegant, distinctive touch. Whether you’re strumming chords or shredding solos, the DG-335 offers comfort and style.

Burstbucker 2 and 3 Pickups for Versatile Tone

Equipped with Gibson USA Burstbucker 2 and 3 pickups, the DG-335 provides the signature tone that Dave Grohl is known for. The Burstbucker 2 delivers smooth lows and rich mids for rhythm playing, while the hotter Burstbucker 3 adds sharp bite and clarity for lead work. With a 3-way pickup selector, you can blend these pickups for a dynamic range of tones, from warm, vintage cleans to high-gain rock crunch.

Premium Controls for Sonic Precision

The Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 features CTS potentiometers and Mallory capacitors, ensuring smooth, precise tone adjustments. Switchcraft electronics provide reliability for gigging and recording, while the custom controls allow you to shape your sound to suit any style or setting. From subtle tweaks to dramatic changes, the DG-335 offers endless sonic possibilities.

I created a kit guitar of this 10 years ago hoping someday an affordable version came out. My kit guitar was fun and sounded pretty good, but WOW, this DG335 is awesome, big neck works for me, sounds great and is a great addition to the collection. I was increasingly impressed as it acclimated to its surroundings!

I've avoided Epiphone guitars in the past due to some quality control concerns, so I was a little hesitant to make the leap for the DG-335. However I wasn't about to fork over the money for the Gibson version which is limited run and nearly impossible to find, so I decided to take the plunge and order the Epiphone DG-335 after reading some great reviews. The guitar arrived today with a beat up box, which was my first sign of trouble. Opening the case everything seemed to be in one piece, phew. Tuned her up and strummed a few chords. Immediately I noticed a couple wonky frets. The first fret especially is noticeably lifted off the fretboard, I could slide a pick under there. In general the fretwork looked sloppy with rough edges and lots of cloth caught in spots from whoever did the final "polish." The second thing I noticed was that the guitar had 3 tone knobs and 1 volume knob. Whoops. I'm also not the biggest fan of the pickups, even though they're USA Gibson pickups. I know that is completely subjective and to each his own, but the bridge pickup especially just seemed a little thin and lacked some of the thump that my Les Paul 61 Burstbuckers have. That's a swap I can make in the future though. Overall I really wanted to like this guitar. I still may keep it once I can get the "warranty" work completed to fix the fret and knob issues, and I think it will end up being a fun guitar to add to the mix once it's all setup and running smoothly. But just be warned, this a huge back order on these and I suspect the Epiphone factory in China is rushing these out, with quality control lacking. Take a close look at yours once you get it!

Have been playing as a hobby over 25 years. Epiphone really stepped up their game with this one. Yes, it is way more money than the typical Epi but unlike most Epi's no mods are required. The USA pickups scream and the fit and finish is amazing. This is coming from a USA Gibson guy Is a Very versatile guitar, can play clean bluesy stuff, classic rock all the way to crunchy thrash and modern metal. Setup out of the box was spot on, even intonation. Only thing I found which needs improvement is the fret surface. They are not glass smooth, they are a bit scratchy on bends. Mask of the fretboard with some painters tape and get some fine steel wool and polish them up. You will be golden. Another word on frets, they are perfect size. Not your typical tiny Gibson ones. Not exactly jumbo but a happy compromise. I like the new direction Epiphone is taking with premium components. It makes a huge difference. That being said....do I wish it was a USA Gibson, of course but as a hobby player I cannot justify the additional 2-3K.
