Open Box Electro-Voice ELX112 Passive 12" Loudspeaker Level 1

Description
The Electro-Voice ELX112 passive loudspeaker is engineered for pro musicians and house of worship applications. Boasting components designed in-house, the ELX112 delivers a sound as commanding as its capabilities. Its 12" woofer and 1.5" titanium compression driver render audio with stunning depth and detail across a wide 55Hz–20kHz frequency range. Rated at 250W continuous and 1,000W peak power handling, this lightweight yet rugged speaker pumps out impressive SPL for its size.
Components Engineered for Pure Performance
At the heart of the ELX112 are drivers developed by Electro-Voice to exacting standards, for accurate, full-range reproduction. The 12" woofer provides firm low-end foundation, while the 1.5" titanium compression driver handles highs with clarity and precision. Together, these components deliver sound with a clarity and balance ideal for any genre.
Built Tough and Portable
Despite its power, the ELX112 weighs just over 42 pounds, letting you transport it with ease using the built-in side handles. Its 15 mm plywood cabinet is braced internally for maximum durability, able to withstand the rigors of frequent live use or permanent installation. The cabinet's angled design also allows it to function as a wedge monitor. Multiple units can be stacked using an optional pole mount or flown via integrated rigging points.
Applications for All Performance Needs
With its combination of high SPL, full-range sound and portability, the ELX112 thrives on stage, in the studio or installed in venues. Use it as a standalone speaker or add it to a larger PA to boost power and coverage. Pair it with a Live X series subwoofer for a potent, portable system with thunderous low-end. For permanent installation, the ELX112 delivers consistent, high-quality audio that will transform any space into a performance environment.

ELX is not their entry level, and all ELX are great!

Few people seem to understand that the 10 inch version of this ELX passive series is the best. It has the flattest frequency response at -/+ 3db 65 to 18000 cycles. Much better than the 12 and 15. As such it makes a fantastic home theater speaker. I have the ELX200-10 in an uncompromised 7.2 system that also uses EV subs, including the 18" self powered 18". My sound rivals any commercial theater, mostly relying on a speaker that costs less than a standard easily blown hifi home speaker.
Surprisingly good

I cannot rate these speakers any lower than 5 stars simply because there is nothing in this price range that comes close. I run a pro PA system and I purchased 2 of these as stage monitors because I wanted the option to use passive speakers in certain locations. All my others are active and sometimes it is not easy to run extra cabling for active speakers or I do not feel confident using an active monitor at the front of the stage - weather, drinks too close to the stage etc. I use a Crown XLS2000 to power them which is a great match and they sound really good. Clear highs, decent lows and reasonable separation. Although I haven't used them as FOH, from the comments I have read and what I have heard from these myself, I would suggest they would make a very affordable efficient PA. The only down side to that would be that the SPL is a little lower than some other 12" drivers so they would be better suited to small bands, duos etc. I have also read that the finish does not hold up well but so far I see no marks on them. However, I bought covers at time of purchase which I feel are essential to keep any piece of equipment looking good and protects your investment.
The best in class!

These are hands down the best speakers you can get for the price, period. Compare them side by side with anything in their price range and that will be instantly apparent. They are extremely clear with a warmth that only a real wood cabinet can bring. All the other brands sounded so harsh and shrill next to these. Also very tight (not boomy) bass and lots of it for a cabinet of this size. Just wonderful. Don't hesitate.

These speakers are EV's entry level and very affordable. While they are built nice and look good the sound is harsh and lacks warmth. While I have not done the measurements I doubt the SPL is anywhere near what it claims on the spec sheet. These are good speakers for amateur djs or to use as floor monitors, but I would not use them for serious events as FOH speakers. If you are on a serious budget these will work better than other entry level speakers, but not the quality I was hoping for from EV. Then again 'quality' speakers cannot be bought for such a cheap price. You get what you pay for.....
very smooth sounding

I have had a pair of ELX112's for 6 months and they seem to have very flat response and can used with no EQ in many configurations. Be aware that they have no low end and require a subwoofer to reproduce anything below 100Hz. They are great for vocals and acoustic guitar, but don't bother micing a kick drum or bass unless you have a sub. If you need full range speakers look at 15's. They work very well as stage monitors, but could use some rubber feet. They are a good generic looking speaker with a spray on finish making them mix & match well with other medium priced speakers that don't have rat fur. Compared to other 12" speakers in this price range I would say that they sound more natural & musical than the Yamaha Clubs which themselves are MUCH better than those nasty sounding JRXs that many people seem to buy for the orange logo.
