DW

Description

"What if there was a travel kit that didn't sound like a travel kit?" The question seems obvious enough, but the minds at DW had never tackled the quandary head-on. So DW went to work on a kit that was just small enough to be travel-friendly, but also substantial enough to sound like a 'real' drum set should.

After years of R&D and discussion, the sizes were established: a 20" x 12" bass drum with low-mass spurs and lightweight ratchet bass drum mount, an 14" x 11" floor tom with aluminum legs, a traditional 12" x 8" rack tom with an STM mounting system, and a matching 14" x 5" snare drum. The kit also comes standard with True-Pitch tension rods, MAG throw-off, True-Tone snare wires, and DW Heads by Remo.

The kit is offered in multiple finishes: a durable White Onyx FinishPly and a lacquer Tobacco Burst. As with all Design Series drums, the shells are 100% North American maple with no reinforcement hoops.

Cymbals and hardware sold separately.

  • I would buy again if bass drum were 18" height and deeper.

Compared to other competing brand compact drum kits, has good size snare and rack tom. Overall better quality built drum kit. Looks/sounds great. With exception to the 20" x 12" bsss drum, this kit soubds great after tuning to my preference. Just somewhat disappointed that I was unable to get the preferred punch tone and projection from the bass drum. Still working on the bass drum tuning and hoping to find a more statisfying punchy stronger projecting sound.

  • I will buy DW Drums from now on!!

I own Ludwig, Taye & Slingerland drum sets now. I have owned Pearl & Mapex. I've read and watched a lot of videos about DW. I'm 52 years old & have been playing drume since I was 6. I figured I owed it to myself to buy what some say is the best drums made. Although they are not the top of the line DWs, this small kit is by far the "BEST" drums I've ever had the honor of sitting behind and playing! I can't say enough about how easy they tune and the overall sound of this little kit. DW is far above the rest in my opinion. The guys At GC were very helpful with all of the questions I had. In the future I might buy a Performance or Collector's series kit from DW. But I really can't imagine them sounding any better that this Frequent Flyer kit!

I hope Guitar Center sells other color options like the Matte Black or the Gloss White.

Does the tom holders for the floor tom and rack tom come included? It says hardware is not included, so not sure if that is included or not.
