Open Box DW Collector's Series 5-Piece Lacquer Custom Shell Pack Level 1 Mahogany/Maple with Chrome Hardware

All drums of this shell pack feature Vertical Low Timbre (VLT) - a DW special feature which involves arranging grain patterns of shell plies so the outermost and innermost plies run vertically versus the traditional horizontal. This provides less tension on the shell for greater resonance.
It also features DW' patented STM (suspension tom mount) system, which allows drums to vibrate independently, allowing maximum resonance while securely holding the drum in place. Because there are no washers or grommets inhibiting the lug rod receiver, choking is reduced and tuning is as easy as ever. To give drummers even more control over their sound, DW created its patented True-Pitch rod system. The rods feature 5mm threads rather than the 12/24 that' standard on most other drums. To compare, there is 1 thread every 0.8mm on True-Pitch rods (about 20% more threads), versus 1 thread every 1.05mm on most other drums. The result is a more exacting tuning process.

Best sounding kit DW makes!

IMHO this is the best sounding DW kit, and I have an exotic maple kit also. Just like maple without all the annoying overtones. No need to add a bunch of moongel to dampen the resonance. It has a little more clarity and projection than the pure maple, and is a more versatile and sensitive.
Beyond expectations

You get what you pay for, every last dime. Was expecting to have buyers remorse, now kicking myself for not getting these when I first saw them over a year ago. Sound is unbelievable, true tones. Playing hard or soft, the sound is amazing, almost bell tone. Wish I could put into words how they look. Not one complaint, (besides the cost) quality is impeccable. I treated myself to a new 9000 pedal to top it off. Only regret is not pulling the trigger sooner. Love love love them.
