Description
The Mitchell Motion D150 dreadnought acoustic guitar delivers the standout tone, seamless playability and refined craftsmanship you'd typically expect from a high-end instrument—all at a price within reach of the everyday player. Built with premium tonewoods and thoughtful design details, it’s an instrument that feels just as welcoming to a beginner as it does to a seasoned musician. The D150’s spruce top and sapele back and sides create a classic tonal blend of clarity and warmth, while forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing enhances resonance and projection. Add in Mitchell’s Comfort-Fit neck profile, durable hardware and a striking gloss finish, and you get a guitar that’s built for everyday inspiration and long-term enjoyment.
Classic Spruce and Sapele Pairing for Rich, Balanced Tone
At the heart of the D150 is its timeless tonewood pairing. The spruce top provides bright articulation and dynamic range, making chords ring clearly and single-note lines cut through with definition. The sapele back and sides add warmth and a focused midrange, balancing out the top-end sparkle with a pleasing, rounded body. The classic dreadnought body shape amplifies these tonal qualities with bold projection, ensuring the D150 can easily fill a room whether you’re practicing, jamming with friends or stepping on stage. It’s a time-tested recipe that rewards strummers and fingerpickers alike with balanced, expressive sound.
Forward-Shifted X-Bracing for Enhanced Resonance
Unlike many guitars in its class, the D150 features forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing—a design element usually reserved for more premium instruments. By moving the bracing pattern closer to the soundhole and carefully scalloping it for flexibility, Mitchell allows the spruce top to vibrate more freely. The result is enhanced bass response, stronger projection and a livelier, more open sound that feels inspiring to play. Whether you’re laying down big, percussive strums or exploring delicate fingerpicking, the D150 responds with tonal depth and character that goes well beyond expectations at this price.
Comfort-Fit Okoume Neck and Smooth HPL Fingerboard
A great guitar begins with a neck that feels comfortable from the very first note. The D150’s okoume neck is shaped to Mitchell’s Comfort-Fit C profile, designed to sit naturally in the hand for hours of relaxed play. Its satin urethane finish reduces friction, helping your hand glide smoothly along the fingerboard. Paired with a durable HPL fingerboard and offset pearloid dot inlays, the neck offers both easy playability and eye-catching detail. With a full 25" scale length and 20 frets, players have the range and feel of a professional instrument in an approachable, everyday design.
Durable Mitchell Hardware for Reliable Performance
The Mitchell Motion D150 is equipped with hardware that makes everyday playing hassle-free. Sealed chrome tuners with an 18:1 gear ratio deliver precise, stable tuning, so your sound stays consistent from practice to performance. A purpleheart bridge with a compensated synthetic bone saddle enhances both sustain and intonation, while the synthetic bone nut and black bridge pins add durability. The high-gloss finish protects the body and elevates its visual appeal, complemented by Mitchell’s updated headstock, pickguard and rosette design. Together, these details give the D150 a look and feel that’s both modern and timeless.
A Timeless Dreadnought That Balances Value and Quality
The Mitchell Motion D150 dreadnought acoustic guitar is proof that great craftsmanship and standout tone don’t have to come with a steep price tag. With its premium tonewoods, forward-thinking design and player-friendly appointments, it’s a guitar that inspires confidence in beginners while offering the premium sound and feel to satisfy more experienced players. The Mitchell D150 was intended as a practice guitar while I was away from home. But its sound, finish, action and price left me very satisfied and surprised. Its look and feel and sound are particularly surprising for a guitar under $200. Highly recommended for beginners and learners.
I'm really into this guitar

I have to say that I'm really impressed with how good this guitar is for the price. It's a ton of fun to play and sounds great. The build quality is rock solid and it feels great in my hands. I think I'm going to try some different strings to see if I can get a warmer, rounder sound, but out of the box it was sounding great. The tobacco sunburst finish looks real classy. It has that classic vintage vibe that makes it look way more expensive than it is. Overall, I couldn't be happier. This is easily one of the best budget guitars I've ever played!

The Mitchell D150 Acoustic Guitar is a dreadnought with some impressive features and sound at a surprising low retail cost of just under $200. It has a bright top end with a warm mid and full-bodied bottom end making it a versatile choice for any player from beginner to experienced. For me, it works well as a secondary guitar that I can take to small parties or use for practicing. The design has some really interesting styling with V-shaped indentations on the top of the head stock, bottom-center of the bridge, and tuning peg knobs. The sun-burst paint styling, light gloss finish on the main body and unique shaping of the pick-guard are just some of the details that you would expect to see on much more expensive guitars. The D-shape of the neck fits my larger left hand very nicely and the satin finish on the back of the neck make for smooth movement up and down the neck (especially for bar chords). Because of my larger hands and fingers, I would have a preferred a slightly wider nut width, but I would not say that the neck-width is too narrow. The action is low enough that it plays nice and easy but not too low so that fret-buzz is an issue. I also would love it if the guitar had a built-in pickup, tuner, and preamp, and there would be a cutaway version, but if you don't need to spend more for those features, and for just under $200, this guitar is an excellent value. I highly recommend the D150!
Really surprisingly high quality and very playable guitar

Out of the box, the Mitchell came strung with bright strings that gave it a crisp, lively tone. Swapping them for a set of Elixir Polywebs brought out a warmer, rounder sound, and the guitar handled the change well. It's not the most complex tone I've heard, but it does feel adaptable depending on the strings. The playability was solid. The string action was set well, low enough to make it easy to play without buzzing. It felt surprisingly comfortable, almost like an electric, which made it easy to switch between styles. Build quality is good for the price. I'm not sure what wood was used, but the body feels sturdy and the wood grain gives it a nice look. The tuners take some getting used to—they're a little slow and stiff as you approach standard pitch. On the flip side, that slower response makes fine adjustments easier, so it ends up being a trade off I totally understand and appreciate. As far as reliability goes, it holds its tuning well and I haven't had any issues with stability during regular playing. It's not a guitar I'd worry about at all. For the cost, the overall package is impressive. It doesn't feel like a budget throwaway, and the finish and playability give it more character than you might expect at this level. The visible wood grain adds a touch of style, which is a nice bonus. I wasn't very familiar with Mitchell beforehand, but this guitar suggests they're a brand worth checking out. It's not going to replace a high-end instrument, but it delivers solid performance at an accessible price.
My new favorite to take to the beach

I've been playing guitars for years, from beat-up old acoustics to some fancy ones that cost a fortune. I got the D150 sunburst, and I gotta say, it's turned into my go-to for when I just want to kick back, relax, and play for a while. It's perfect if you're just getting started or don't want to spend a ton of money. The sound honestly surprised me. It's got that big, full projection that fills the room, with a low end that's deep but not muddy… it's not overly bright or boomy and it hits that sweet spot where everything just sounds clear and balanced. What I love most is how easy it is on my hands. The neck is slim and comfortable and shaped just right so I can move up and down the fretboard without any strain. My fingers don't get tired like they do on some stiffer guitars, and it's just fun to play. I keep it on the couch for everyday strumming, and I've taken it to the beach a bunch, and I'm not worried about it getting knocked around or exposed to a bit of sand and salt air. It's solid without being heavy or clunky, which makes it easy to carry around. Anyway, it just plays easy and sounds great… which makes me want to play it all the time.

I'm really impressed with the Mitchell Motion D150 in sunburst. The sound has a nice balance—warm and full, but with nice bright overtones that also stand out. It's lightweight, yet it feels solid and dependable in your hands. Even the stock strings surprised me—they feel good under the fingers and have stayed in tune nicely since day one. The fretboard action is comfortable, making it easy to play for longer sessions without fatigue. And honestly, it just looks fantastic in person—the sunburst finish really pops. For the price, this guitar is a great value.
