Mark III Bass Head

I've been jamin on the SWR SM400 with 6-10 ampeg for quite a few years and decided it was time for a change. I went on-line and found a lot of intresting reviews on bass amp heads and the MarkBass was brought up more over top name brands for: Performance, weight, ease of use, and price. That was enough to sell me so I went to the local Guitar Center where they had the MarkBass III. I bought it without even trying it out. I giged that night and was just plain in awe with the amount of sound that came out of my speakers. I play a Modulus fb5 Flea. That little amp is so cool. All the reviews were not kidding. Its all that and more. Ive been jamin the bass for over 40 years and now my sound actually is heard! I gess my time is now and its about time! Great quality. After the gig I wrap it up in a nice thick towel and put the little 6 pound baby in a nap sack along with my chords and away i go. 600 watts is a lot of snot. I use a fraction of it and its there if I need it. Just way cool! The only negative thing is the sale should include the optional "ears" for mounting the unit in a rack case.

Repairs

My MBIII head went out after one year, during a gig. Thankful I had a backup with me. I'm not irritated that it went out, I'm irritated cause I've been without my head for over a month now. It was under warranty so I had to ship it to a designated address for repair. It takes 2-4 weeks before a tech will even look at it. You'll have to pay shipping. The equipment sounds and performs awesome but should it go out you're gonna be without for a while. I'm still without my MB setup and I am not happy. This rig cost me over $1,200 total and I can't even use it at the time. Had I known this I'd have gone with something else.

Great and easy tone flexibility with plenty of power in a very portable package. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 stars is I have not had it long and cannot speak to durability…although I have used other markbass amps that have been going strong for years

  • Please stay away from this amp!

My unit went out after almost 4 years! I used it for band practice only since she had only 300W for my Markbass 8 ohms 2x10 portable cab. I had to send it to a repair dealer in Dallas since there is no Markbass Repair Service here in Houston, TX. Today I had a call from the technician and told me that it'll cost me almost $500 to repair my amp. He also mentioned that the problem with the amp is also a very common problem that he sees in Markbass amp. I decided not to repair it and paid the diagnostic fees. Don't give me wrong, the amp I had was a nice one, it sounded great, I loved it from the 1st day. But when it comes to the repair cost, be ready to pay almost as much as you pay for the new one.

I'm using this Markbass LM III for shows nationally and has been great even for the biggest stages and venues. For local gigs it is compact and light and using it with either a Markbass cabinet or club supplied cab. I love the tone and seems to work with most genres.

I originally bought an Ampeg PF500 and had to return it the next day because the fan was so loud. Let me add that the folks at Guitar Center were great about the return. I looked over the other amps offered by GC that were in my price point and even though it cost me a about $100 more than the Ampeg I found the money well spent. The MB LMIII is a great light-weight but powerful amp and has all the features that I was looking for. The amp is quiet, and clean with a full range of tones that can be dialed in. I'm still tweaking the settings for for now I am very pleased. Now all I need is to sell my current other brand bottom and purchase a Markbass 2x10.

  • The little Mark 3 bass amp head is outstanding.
