MESA/Boogie Bass 800D 800W Bass Amp Head

Description
The MESA/Boogie Bass 800D 800W bass amp head reimagines the legendary Boogie 400+ for a new era, delivering its unmistakable warmth and dynamic punch in a format that’s lighter, more portable and perfectly suited to the needs of modern bassists. Built in Petaluma, California, this hybrid design pairs a tube preamp with Class-D power, producing up to 800 watts of bold, articulate tone that thrives onstage or in the studio. With thoughtful updates inspired by MESA’s acclaimed Subway line—including intuitive voicing switches, an onboard high-pass filter and versatile connectivity—the Bass 800D bridges the gap between vintage tube character and cutting-edge performance, all in a rugged chassis that weighs just 6.7 lb.
Classic Boogie Tone With Modern Efficiency
At its heart, the Bass 800D draws directly from the heritage of the iconic Bass 400+, a tube-driven powerhouse beloved for its rich harmonic content and commanding low end. The single 12AT7 preamp tube captures the warmth and natural compression of MESA’s tube lineage, while Class-D power delivers tight, immediate response with massive headroom. This hybrid approach provides the best of both worlds—supple dynamics and tube-enhanced overdrive when you want it, paired with the speed, punch and accuracy that only modern Class-D amplification can achieve. The result is unmistakably Boogie: big, bold and ready to lead the band.
Streamlined Controls for Immediate Tone Shaping
Rather than a sprawling graphic EQ, the Bass 800D emphasizes simplicity and effectiveness, offering controls that matter most to working players. Switchable low- and high-gain inputs let you tailor your response to your instrument and playing style, while deep and bright contour switches quickly expand your tonal palette. The onboard high-pass filter provides precision control over sub-lows, tightening up your mix and preventing mud onstage. Combined with traditional bass, mid, treble and master controls, the Bass 800D makes it easy to dial in a polished, professional sound—whether you’re chasing vintage roundness, modern snap or something in between.
Versatile Connectivity and Pro-Grade Features
The Bass 800D is designed to be as versatile offstage as it is on. A balanced XLR direct out with pre/post EQ switching, line/mic level and ground lift provides reliable connection to front-of-house or recording interfaces. An auxiliary input and headphone jack make silent practice a breeze, while the fully buffered effects loop integrates seamlessly with pedals and processors. For gigging musicians, the inclusion of speakON speaker outputs and a comprehensive impedance selector (2, 4 or 8 ohms) ensures compatibility with a wide range of cabinets. Add in a USB power port, tuner out and remote mute jack, and the 800D is as practical as it is powerful.
Lightweight Build and Road-Ready Reliability
Weighing in at just 6.7 lb., the Bass 800D is built for effortless transport without sacrificing durability. Its rugged aluminum chassis is powder-coated for maximum protection, while fan cooling ensures reliable operation in demanding environments. The universal auto-configuring power supply adapts globally, making it a trusted companion for touring bassists. Paired with the included gig bag and optional footswitch, this compact powerhouse is engineered to handle the grind of modern gigging life, all while delivering the unmistakable MESA voice night after night.
A Modern Classic for the Next Generation of Bassists
The MESA/Boogie Bass 800D 800W bass amp head distills decades of MESA innovation into a forward-thinking unit that honors the past while embracing the future. By blending the soul of the 400+ with the precision and portability of MESA’s Subway series, it offers players the flexibility to command any style with confidence. From nuanced studio work to thunderous live performances, the Bass 800D delivers iconic tone in a package that’s easy on your back but uncompromising in sound. The Bass 800D sounds very similar to an all-tube bass amp. The magic under the hood of applying impedance matching, damping control, inherent voicing, and high power all work together to provide a unique sounding amp to the Subway lineup. When turning up the gain, the preamp's 12AU7 tube overdrives the tone, making this amp sound huge. I also like the simplified tone control which is unique to the Subway lineup. Turn down all the EQ knobs and the amp goes silent. Just a different way to find your sound - I like it. It is much less complicated than my WD-800 which often had me scratching my head if I needed to adjust at a show. Overall this thing sounds great, is easy to find your tone and is the least expensive Subway 800 watt amp in the lineup.
