MEINL Sea Drum 22 in.

I was introduced to this type of drum by a dear friend, only her drum, had an under-the-sea motif on one side, which I was not very fond of, but I was very intrigued by the sound. I did an internet search and found this version, by Meinl. I also found an instructional video on Meinl's YouTube channel, that showed the variety of ways it can be played. I was sold. I like that the Sea Drum has two sides, one natural goat skin, and one synthetic clear side. Both sides have their own distinct sound with nice resonance. The fact that you can also remove the metal beads through a port on the side is also nice, if you simply want to reduce it's weight and use i as a frame drum. Through the synthetic side you can watch the metal beads rolling around the drum, which in of itself is quiet meditative, but the true beauty of this drum, is that it sounds incredibly like the rolling seas. It truly sounds as if you are sitting on a beach, or on a sail boat listening to the crashing waves. This is definitely a piece for those who like to collect unusual instruments, and it is definitely versatile enough to intrigue a novice, or advanced musician. This instrument translates well in sound healing, healing circles, drum circles, women's circles, moon circles, singing lullabies or chanting. I have played it everyday since I received it. I am very happy with this purchase.
