The Meinl Byzance Medium Crash Traditional Cymbal provides a professional and versatile sound for drummers of all styles. Handcrafted from B20 bronze in Turkey, this 16" medium-thin crash cymbal delivers a bold, energetic attack with dark, complex undertones. Its fully lathed surface gives it a classic look and balanced, responsive touch. The Byzance medium crash blossoms with a powerful, musical roar that cuts through mixes and extends through dynamic levels.

Traditional Craftsmanship Meets Modern Versatility

Rooted in traditional cymbal-making methods, this crash is hammered into shape using techniques perfected over generations. Yet its tone is tailored to contemporary drumming needs, suiting rock, jazz, pop, latin and beyond. This fusion of old-world artistry and 21st-century performance makes for an instrument with timeless appeal.

Explosive Power With Nuanced Control

The Byzance Medium Crash erupts with an energetic attack, then opens into a singing, shimmering sustain. Its medium-thin weight provides enough power and volume to cut through a mix, while remaining responsive to a drummer's dynamics. A light touch will yield a delicate, muted crash; a forceful hit produces a roaring wash of sound. This balance of power and control gives drummers an exceptionally versatile instrument.

Handcrafted Tone and Timeless Looks

The Byzance Medium Crash is carefully handcrafted to produce a musical, resonant tone. It is hammered into a precise shape, then lathed to a smooth finish, allowing the deeper hammer marks to remain visible. This combination of hammering and lathing techniques results in an instrument with visual depth and tonal complexity. The B20 bronze material provides warmth, nuance and projection.

Deep crash sound but should be hit with stick tip to not overwhelm and become a bit swooshy

This cymbal is evidence of the strides Meinl has made in recent years. The Byzance is bright, washes nicely, and is very articulate while being a great crash cymbal. In the league with Zildjian and Paiste in terms of sonic qualities and appearance....a beautiful cymbal. Hand made in Turkey for Meinl.....you cannot go wrong....give it a listen and buy it. My zildjians(14 of them), are a bit jealous of the Byzance. Highly recommend this crash cymbal for Jazz or light rock.

Been looking for a large crash with a low/mid tone...this is it. I play everything from hardcore to jazz and this cymbal can be used for it all. It's great if you want a massive crash/wash for breakdowns. It's great if you want to use it a more of a washy ride. It's just great. You have to sell a lung to pay for it...but it's great. My other main crashes are Zildjian K Dark Thins and I think they go very nicely together.

Just upgraded my Paiste Pst 5 cymbals with all new Meinl's. I was a little scepticle at first to get Meinl mainly because I couldn't play it and hear it before I bought it. But with Guitar Centers killer return policy it was easy to return if I didn't like the sound. But I must say I am glad I took the risk because this cymbal, and all the Meinl's I've purchased, sound amazing!! Way better than any Paiste, Zildjian or Sabian I've checked out at GS. The only reason the others are out selling Meinl is because you can get your hands on them very easily and play them before you buy. If your considering Meinl, take my advice and take the risk. You will NOT be dissapointed.
