It's a great instrument Yes it does have some buzz but that's only because you're not putting your finger in the correct spot if you put it where it's supposed to be it should not buzz very much but also it's because of the strings that you're using as well so if you change the strings you probably won't have so much buzz and also if you read the little card that comes with it those strings are kind of supposed to sound like a frog so it's a unique kind of sound I love it
Pretty good practice bass, except...

I was attracted to the lightweight portability of the Nomad U-Bass. It is fine unless I want to play it above the octave frets, then it buzzes. Adjusting the truss rod did not fix the problem. My bad for not being more analytical when I tried it in the store. I might have declined it--though I prefer not to play that high up the neck on bass anyway. It just left me feeling kind of disappointed. When I googled it, fret buzz seems to be a problem with these. I guess I'm lucky it's only the highest frets.
More fun than I expected

Initially thought the preamp failed, but turns out that there's a switch triggered by plugging in & after a few insertions it freed up and now works. The Nomad plays/sounds great, akin to an upright with the plunkiness I associate with violin-style basses on flatwounds. #sweepstakes

The Kala Nomad has opened up a whole other way to approach playing bass. The sound is SO bouncy and fun! I've played bass since 1967, and haven't had this much fun in a long time. If you already play bass, the Ubass takes a MUCH lighter touch, but is very much as expressive as any other bass. There's a learning curve, but it's a sharp curve!
A lot of fun and a different sound

A great travel bass. Can pretty closely mimic an upright sound through an amp.
How Fun!

This bass is so very fun to play. I am actually jamming on it right now. You do not even need an amp to play it!!
