Just what I wanted in stock.
Most of my friends have the Kala tenor. I love walnut and Guitar Center had it in stock for immediate shipment. I chose to have it sent to a store so I could pick out a case and other things needed. Good option.

Poor quality control
Unplayable out of the box. Had to return to GC. Nut cut to deep across all four strings. Had fret buzz out to third fret on open strum. Returned and choose another manufacturer.

After tons and tons of research, I decided to buy this as my first ukulele. I used to play a Venezuelan Cuatro back at home so despite the fact that I'm new to ukes, I have some experience with four-stringed instruments. Before purchasing this uke, I had been playing around with my friend's Lanikai (concert size) for about a month or two. So when I first played mine I noticed that there was a HUGE difference in sound! Of course the tenor size (compared to the lanikai, which was a concert) helps, but the sound of this uke is absolutely beautiful compared to other budget ukuleles of it's size as well. When me and my friend play together, it's easy to differentiate the two and the Kala really does have a much warmer, softer and fuller tone to it. The one thing that is really bothering me is the action. I had seen some people complain about it, and now that I tried it I have to agree. It's very high, making it difficult to press down on the strings on the first fret. Even using a lot of pressure, it's hard to completely press the string down. I practiced with the Lanikai obsessively for a couple of weeks before getting the Kala and, although my fingertips were hurting, it wasn't half as bad. After 30-45 minutes of practice with my Kala I have blisters (not calluses, but actual blisters) starting to form on my fingertips. Now when I pick up the Lanikai again, I definitely feel the difference on my fingertips. So much softer and easier to play! I will be making some minor adjustments this week to lower the action on my Kala. These adjustments are minor, easy to do, and not costly at all. Any guitar center or music store will help you do it! I'm sure once this issue is fixed I will be 100% satisfied with my instrument. It really is an exceptional ukulele and I recommend it to anyone! Don't let the action issue steer you away from this instrument! You won't regret it.
Nice Kala Ukulele for traveling.

At first the C string would go out of tune very easily., requiring contant tuning. All the strings would drop flat for about a week. a very high tension on the tunning pegs. I expected a little louder fuller sound. Overall this is simple but well crafted Ukulele. Good for traveling and canpfires.
Sounds great

How much for a case and shoulder strap with this uke? I am just a beginner beginner and working with a wealth of ignorance! Any military discount/package 'deal'?
