Jet City Amplification

Description

RetroValves are 100% analog vacuum tube replacement devices offering the warm, fat, punchy sound traditionally associated with only glass vacuum tubes. AMBER RetroValves are nominally the same gain as a standard 12AX7 and perform as you would expect a 12AX7 would. RED RetroValves are very high gain, allowing the preamp to achieve gain characteristics not possible with standard vacuum tubes. BLUE RetroValves are significantly lower gain, effectively "cooling off" the preamp gain.

I debated trying these for a long time and finally pulled the trigger. I'm glad I did! I am totally blown away! I got an Amber 3-pack & started swapping the V1, V2 & V3 in my old 5150. Starting with just the V1, there was a slight increase in gain & the very top-end rolled off just a bit. I'm not saying it suddenly sounded sterile or solid state at all-it still sounded like tubes-just a bit less presence bite. Then, I put the V1 tube back and switched out V2 and V3 for the RetroValves. I got all the sizzle I ever had PLUS more growl, better-defined mids, an overall "fatter", both low and high gain tone and that little extra gain. I'm not saying these are for everyone, but for the price of a good cable or used dirt pedal, you might get a really great sound you didn't expect from your current amp. If nothing else, you might be able to relegate them to your phase inverter or loop and not have to change them for a good, long while!
