Powerful Jackson Pickups

The Spectra Bass JS2 features a Jackson J-style bridge pickup and P-style neck pickup, allowing for a spectrum of punchy to rounded tones. Excellent Bass at a great price!!

I am a guitarist for a Christian band and at my Church. I recently took up playing bass to fill in when our bassist is away. I went in to Guitar Center set on buying either the Yamaha TRBX174 or Ibanez GSR200 based on the great reviews and youtube videos I watched.The Yamaha's need a lot of work to make them playable, especially the sharp frets. The Ibanez was only slightly better than the Yamaha in terms of being ready to play out of the box. Then I saw this Jackson Spectra JS2, which was only very recently released. It played flawless. The action was great, the Intonation was dead on, and the fretboard was thinner and faster than the Yamaha and the Ibanez. Also, the neck was perfectly smooth with no sharp frets. Plugged in, it sounds awesome. I love the fact it has a blend knob to go from fall on P-Bass to Jazz bass tone. With the active pickups, it sounds rich and full through my Fender Rumble 100. Also, the push-pull volume knob disables the active circuity of the pickups and makes them passive which is great because when the battery dies, you can pull the knob and still play in passive mode. Needless to say, I bought the Jackson. The strings on it sucked and were causing some buzzing with thelow E and A strings, so I replaced them with D'Addario 50-105's. I did have to file the nut since the new strings were slightly heavier. I also set it up to my liking..ie there was just slightly too much relief in the neck, so I adjusted the truss rod a little tighter. After the truss rod adjustment, and new strings installed, there was ZERO buzz anywhere on the fretboard. Also, it sounds so much more awesome with the new D'Addario's. Even though Jackson has production in Indonesia, this is one heck of a bass for the price. Do not hesitate to buy this bass!

Great beginner bass

A great bass for a beginner. The neck is amazing right out of the box. Garbage strings but that's to be expected. The only reason for the 3 star rating is that in spite of the 2 "inspected by" stickers, one wire on the blend pot was not soldered before assembly.

    I actually bought this for my cancer patients to use at my workplace. It pairs up with an Acoustic B200, and Lord have mercy, does this little beast kick out some sound. I should backtrack a bit....after purchasing this, I took it to my highly competent guitar tech/luthier, who always takes his time on an instrument, regardless of the price or type of bass. He made a few adjustments and tweaking, put on a pair of my favorite strings - the Dunlop Hybrid Steels, and as I had mentioned above, it kicks it the sound. If I have one minor quibble, it's that it doesn't have a separate, dedicated bass/treble eq set-up. Rather, it has a bass boost control. Not a major thing, I just tweak the amp controls a bit, as needed. This bass sounds and plays so well, yeah, I wouldn't hesitate to take it onstage. i know many label it as a beginner bass, but who says you can't take a "beginner" bass onstage. It's lightning fast, low weight, and it has a high output preamp couple with the active pickups. What's not too like?

    After 2 months or less the bass just stopped working on my amp and my direct plug in headphones. Returned to guitar center for a replacement and now after a month the replacement stopped working. Definitely electrical issues. Horrific quality.

    This is my first bass (and instrument) ever and I love the choice I made, It's not too heavy, feels pretty good to play on but I'm still learning, the E string had a little too much fret buzz but nothing that could not be fixed and it's been taken care of. Since this item was out of stock in the warehouse I got the one that was in store and it was in great condition. I got the black one and I love it

    This bass is absolutely amazing for the price, the sound is great, setting options are impressive, and the body is extremely ergonomically good for the shape your body. The only problem I have is the jazz pickup, I'll be getting a emg for that but other than that its amazing

    I love how narrow the neck is a the nut on the Ibanez basses, as they are comfortable and fast, and I cant stand playing Fender basses because the necks are so wide. How does this bass compare to those basses?

    Somewhere in between. Nut is 1.5" (38.1 mm) Radius of 12". Pretty small. Closer to the Ibanez.
