Awesome, comfortable bass, Flimsy finish.
This bass plays very nicely. It is easy on the fingers and speedy. Very nice design. It holds its tune well, and has a responsive sound. It has good sustain, and a tasteful amount of growl. Since there are active pickups, it has a slightly compressed sound that works great for metal, but its not so squashed that it can't be used for jazz and classic rock. The built in EQ allows a lot of different sounds, but it does not need dialing in. It sounds great on default. The finish is very delicate. It has worn down where my thumb rests while I play finger style, and been scratched up where I play pick style. The other day, the corner of an empty cardboard box fell onto the bass while it was on the stand, and left a visible mark on it. I think scratches add character so I'd strongly recommend it if you don't care too much about aesthetics. I've included a picture. For reference, I've been playing it for 3 years. (a few gigs and a lot of jams per year)

I won't buy anything from guitar center again.
I ordered a brand new Ibanez sr 500 basss and it was clearly used or a floor model.

Have used this bass for recording and for gigs. Bought it used, and estimate it's a late 1990s version with Bartolini MK1 pickups. The neck feels amazing: thin but solid. Easy access to all frets. The pickups produce a wide variety of modern sounds: slap & pop to jazz-with outstanding clarity and power. Adjustments: filed the nut to lower the action, truss rod, intonation, bridge height, and a new set of strings. Bought this as a backup to my Lakeland PJ. What it can't do: There are some vintage passive bass tones, e.g. Led Zep Ramble On, or Barry Oakley, that this bass just can't emulate. That said, I have started playing this bass for nearly half the songs during gigs because it is so light and it sounds great.
I won't buy anything from guitar center again.

I have always been a 4 string player but as I ventured into some heavier rock over the last few years, I got tired of constantly having to be in a drop tuning on my J Bass. Coming from a Fender American Jazz, I really wanted something that had a high quality feel with solid components and this does not disappoint. The sustain is really impressive thanks to the beefy sunk-in bridge. If you want to add a 5 string to your collection without breaking the bank, this is the way to go.
Amazing bass, and feels like a 2k bass

This bass is amazing. the feel is top notch and feels like a hot knife going through butter. The pickups are truly superb, along with the preamp, you can get any tone you want. I recommend to anyone because this was my first bass, and I've seen many professionals use it too. Such as great buy!!!!!!!!
I would buy this Bass guitar again

Wow !!!. I have owned Fender, Peavey Schecter bass guitars for at least 35 yrs. And I have got to say that this is the Bass Guitar that beats them all. When I first plugged it in and played it the sound just blew me away compared to my other basses. It is so light the neck action is smooth and the price also beats them all. I read all the reviews for about 3-4 weeks before I bought it and hoped for the best. Thanks to all the reviews that helped me with my decision to buy this Bass Guitar I am totally satisfied and would surely recommend it to a friend. THANKS!
A definite winner

This was suggested to me by many friends who play and several experts at other stores. I had Ray 4 which weighed a ton, tho sounded pretty good, but was killing my shoulders. This beauty is light and sweet sounding. Rapid up and down the neck. Highly recommend for price. I am pretty much early on in my journey, but this is on instrument that is great for anyone.

Difference between 500 and 500e
Mainly the electronic and hardware are upgraded on the 500e.
