Ibanez SR MEZZO Electric Bass

Description
The Ibanez Mezzo SRMD200 electric bass guitar offers incredible tone and playability for bassists of all skill levels. This retro-inspired 4-string bass features a 32" scale maple neck and poplar body with a striking seafoam pearl green finish. The SRMD200's compact size and lightweight body provide effortless playability, while its powerful tone offers a rich low end suited for any music genre. Loaded with Dynamix pickups and an Ibanez 2-band EQ, the SRMD200 gives you full control over your sound.
Medium 32" Scale for Comfortable Playing
The SRMD200's 32" scale length is 2" shorter than a standard bass, making it ideal for players of all sizes. Its shorter scale offers lightweight, compact comfort without sacrificing the full, powerful tone the SR series is known for. The SRMD200's medium frets and smooth maple neck also provide a familiar feel for bassists transitioning from guitar.
Dynamix Pickups for a Modern Tone
Outfitted with an Ibanez DXP neck pickup and DXJ bridge pickup, the SRMD200 delivers a clear, punchy tone well suited for today's music styles. The DXP pickup provides a warm, full tone in the neck position while the DXJ pickup adds extra punch and clarity in the bridge position. Combined with the SRMD200's Ibanez 2-band EQ, these pickups offer a wide range of modern bass tones.
Rock-Solid Hardware for Solid Performance
The SRMD200 features hardware for stable tuning and reliable performance. Its B10 bridge provides adjustable intonation for accurate tuning across the fretboard. Grover machine heads keep the SRMD200 in tune through hours of playing. A PPS synthetic nut improves sustain and enhances the bass' naturally bright tone.

Features
- Comfortable lightweight body with bolt-on maple neck
- Medium-scale design for easier play while maintaining great low end

Great medium scale bass for the money!
I've been playing bass for years, and as result of the heavy weight of the average electric bass my shoulder has problems. I've tried every kind of bass strap, but none have solved the weight issue. I ran across the Ibanez Mezzo Bass at Guitar Center, took it for a spin, and walked out the store with it! It is a fantastic medium (mezzo) scale bass which loses nothing in low end and tone. With the scale being 2 inches shorter than the standard 34" scale of most basses, the playability factor is fantastic for my short fingers. The width of the fingerboard is very comfortable as well with string spacing easily allowing for slap/pop. The overall weight of the instrument is so light it is a huge relief for my shoulder. I can play for hours without any discomfort. Love it!! Next I will be checking out the 5-string version of this great bass. Many folks have complained about severe fret sprout with sharp fret ends causing cut fingers. My bass has well-finished fret ends with no sprout whatsoever. The only modification I have made was to lightly sand and buff the back of the neck to make it smooth as glass. I will also probably change strings at which time I will treat the fingerboard to the same sanding/buffing treatment. Some folks have complained about the tuners. Mine operate very smoothly, so I guess I got lucky and found a well-constructed instrument. This bass is a great value for the money — and it looks cool too!

Such a disappointment
After reading (mostly positive) reviews about the Mezzo I was excited to purchase this medium scale bass. I needed a lightweight bass since my old one was causing shoulder issues. I went to GC to try it out and at first glance it looked very nice. However, the moment I ran my hands up and down the neck and started playing, I suddenly found fine cuts in my fingers and thumb from the sharp frets. I'm not talking about a couple, but all the way up on both sides of the neck. It was horrible! I've been playing since 86 and it's a good thing I have calluses or I probably would have been bleeding. I asked the GC employee if they could at least file the frets if I were to purchase it. After checking he said, 'No, they'd have to take the strings off and it would be an extra $43 etc. but they could order me another one.' I put the sea foam green one back and tried the red version of it. Same issues, just as bad. So I looked at other basses and ended up buying an Ibanez GSR200SM instead. This model is wonderful (smooth straight neck, no fret issues, lightweight, brown stained spalted maple top). The one funny thing was the other young GC employee who tried to 'argue' with me that the Mezzo isn't a medium scale bass. You do know what "Mezzo" means don't ya kid? I know it's not Guitar Centers fault, it's a quality control issue with Ibanez, but I would proceed with EXTREME caution if you're looking at the Mezzo bass.

This bass is very versatile in terms of tone, not only Jazz and Precision sounds but much in between, not to mention the active eq. Quality and playability impressive for this price point. Would highly recommend.

Easily the biggest piece of garbage bass I've ever owned. To some extent I blame myself. I purchased two guitars along with this bass I was skimped on myself to save a few bucks. Lesson learned. While this is -maybe- passable as a beginner bass, I definitely wouldn't want someone to learn on it as the lackluster, dull tones would make me hate bass. There's absolutely no character or warmth to the sound. It's a pretty bass, I will give it that. Five stars for the design, color, feel, but in terms of where it counts, no no no, pass on this one.

Sounds great, plays nice. Mine did have slight issues with fret overhang, as mentioned in a 2-star review, and after several days of playing, I found I was developing a couple of left hand sores from the abrasion...I was able to dull those fret edges by firmly rubbing the underside of the neck with the round shaft of a socket wrench (most any solid metal cylinder shape would have sufficed), which was an easy enough remedy.

61 year old beginner. Started a year ago with an Ibanez Mikro and love it. Got this Mezzo a couple of weeks ago and love it, too. The 32 inch scale is perfect, and the neck is wonderfully narrow. It's great for my older hands. Put some light GHS flats on it, and it sounds super. My complaint isn't with the bass, but the QC. The neck was a bit loose, as were the machines, and the fret ends felt like they hadn't been touched after the build. They stuck way out and were very sharp. The truss rod needed a big adjustment, as well. It's a very forgiving bass, and I was able to correct all of the issues myself. It now has great action, excellent intonation, and smoother fret ends. The fret issue was the worst part, but I'm glad I took the time and did it. This bass will suit me for a long time.

Hi. Besides the Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar Bass Black and the Ibanez Mezzo SRMD200 Electric Bass, does Guitar Center offer any other 32" scale basses? Also, are these 2 basses comparable in quality?
