Very nice instrument
I recently purchased the dark violin sunburst Ibanez M-510. It is a beautiful instrument. I absolutely love the finish on it. So as far as looks go it is very very nice. I have been playing guitar for 15 years and I'm learning the mandolin so I purchased this one b/c it was inexpensive. It does not necessarily have the biggest sound, but you have to take into consideration it is a $150 instrument. For the price you pay, it does have a nice sound to it and I would definitely recommend it if you are learning how to play. If nothing else it will make a nice looking addition to my wall of instruments!

Decent for the money but NEEDS a setup!
Bought this for my daughter to start learning Mandolin. Quality seems to be a bit inconsistent. The first one had finish flaws and a matte finish like the picture. The second one was glossy like the description. Took it to a luthier right away for a proper setup. The strings sit too high on the nut for good playability and the bridge was not only of poor material but didn't sit properly on the instrument, so he replaced the bridge and sanded to the contour. Added some good strings and it seems a decent instrument for the price. If you can afford a $100 more, my luthier and instructor both said that The Loar Mandolin is a better instrument.

Beautiful mando. I got the vintage sunburst and it definitely doesn't have the same color as photographed, but is a really nice instrument.
Great Value for the price

I decided that I'd like to take up the mandolin as I love the sound, and I've always wanted to play the theme song to Zorba The Greek. I believe for the price you get a well built, beautiful mandolin that sounds great. Like with any guitar that I have ever purchased the first thing I do is take off the strings, honey up the fret board and wax the instrument, and set it up with Ernie Ball strings. When I was done with this instrument, it is beautiful and sounds great.

Play guitar, banjo, and ukulele. Bought to learn mandolin. Once I replaced the broken bridge and rusty strings, and gave it a complete set up, it does have a decent tone,

We got this for our 7 year old for Christmas. We got him a case for it and he was careful with it. He has already learned to play a chord and twinkle twinkle on it. Sadly, after only 4 days of use and no trauma to the mandolin, he is so sad to find a crack across the back of the neck. Unfortunately I didn't pay for the warranty. We have a super sad little guy.

what gauge strings are on this mandolin so I can change them. Is there a good brand I should try?
This mandolin comes with medium gauge strings. It is mainly a matter of personal preference but I would recommend Elixir, D'addario or Ernie Ball strings.
