Ibanez

Description

The Ibanez GRG7221M lets you tap into the power of an extended range at an affordable price. Ibanez designed this seven-string specifically for players ready to explore the sonic territory that only a 7th string can unlock. Powered by dual Infinity R humbucking pickups, the GRG7221M delivers massive tones from sparkling cleans to roaring distortions. Its slim poplar body and fast maple neck allow for hours of comfortable playing, while a fixed bridge provides rock-solid tuning stability for complex riffing and shredding. Now available at Guitar Center, unleash the potential of seven strings and dive into new realms of creativity with the Ibanez GRG7221M.

Dual Humbuckers Provide a Wealth of Tones

The Infinity R humbucking pickups are voiced to handle the extended range of a seven-string with power and articulation. The neck pickup yields warm, rich tones perfect for rhythm playing, while the bridge pickup kicks out a snarling midrange ideal for solos and lead lines. With a three-way pickup selector, you have full access to neck, bridge and combined pickup tones.

Fast Neck and Fixed Bridge Enable Flawless Playability

The GRG7221M's maple neck and fretboard are built for speed and comfort. 24 jumbo frets and a flat 15.75" radius provide the real estate for complex chords and shredding solos. Anchored by a fixed bridge, the seven strings stay locked in tune for maximum stability as you explore the outer reaches of the fretboard.

Ergonomic Body Keeps You Comfortable

While the GRG7221M provides the sonic power of a seven-string, its poplar body remains lightweight, balanced and contoured for comfort. Play for hours without fatigue thanks to the body's slim and ergonomic shape.

A lot of guitar for the money

I bought this on a trade right out of the store, mainly because it has a lot of the features that I like, and and I found nothing to complain about with regard to fit and finish. I like the fact that, for a budget axe, Ibanez decided to use poplar for a body, as opposed to some cheap laminate. I've owned more expensive guitars with poplar in the past, and though it's often dismissed as a poor-man's alder, tonally it's closer to mahogany, which helps balance out the all-maple neck. I also am a fan of the string-through hardtail brindge, which I vastly prefer to tremelos. The black hardware gives a classy, aggressive look, and the frets and nut are nicely finished. Finally, at first I thought the pickups were trash, then I figured out that, being high-powered ceramics, I had them too close to the strings. I backed off a bit, and they actually remind me of a 500t/496r set, giving a balanced, slightly airy frequency response with snarly mids and lightly compressed dynamcs. Sure, a pair of D Activators would sound better, but then again, that out be about the price of the whole guitar! And, of course, the 24 fret all-maple neck looks cool to boot!

I used to have a Jackson Dinky arch top that also had 7 strings. It was okay. The sound on that guitar was too muddy and middy and eventually the electronics got finicky and I could not get the nice chunky djent sound I wanted. This Ibanez Gio 7 string was a much need upgrade for the price. It has two humbuckers designed for 7 string and sounds WAY better. I can get a really nice sound on the lower string, even when I play power chords. If you are looking to get a 7 string and are on a budget, get this one instead of a Jackson Dinky. It's worth the extra price.

This is my first 7 string. The neck width is good and the contour of the spine compensates well for the extra width. The sound is excellent and the guitar is well balanced. A great value more than worth the price.

  • This is a nice guitar.

Like most, who would like to venture into a 7 string guitar, but want to first try it before a major purchase price, this is one of many, to try. It does have a fatter neck, be it the extra string width and tension on neck therein. But, it's not uncomfortable. It actually isn't the thichest, broadest one out there. I'm enjoying it. Mostly for rhythm but can shred a bit too. Everyone has different playing styles and hands. I don't have long fingers, and I find it close to the 6 string Electra neck I had years ago. Quality and setup is okay. Right out of the box
