Ibanez Bass Workshop BTB605MS 5-String Electric Bass Guitar - Solar Eclipse Matte

Description
The Ibanez Bass Workshop BTB605MS 5-string multi-scale bass is built for players who push the limits of low-end performance. Developed as part of the Ibanez Bass Workshop project, this striking instrument pairs boutique-inspired construction with a longer, more aggressive multi-scale format. Its neck-through design and extended 35"–37" scale length deliver exceptional sustain and piano-like low-end definition. A five-piece maple and walnut neck reinforced with graphite rods anchors the instrument with rock-solid stability, while resonant okoume body wings keep the feel balanced and responsive. At its core, Ibanez T1 pickups deliver tight lows, punchy mids and clear highs with individually adjustable coils, supported by Ibanez Custom Electronics with three-band EQ, mid-frequency switching and passive bypass. Finished with an adjustable MR5S bridge and housed in a protective hardshell case, the BTB605MS is a precision-crafted tool built to fuel your sonic explorations.
Neck-Thru Multi-Scale Construction for Maximum Low-End Authority
The BTB605MS features a neck-thru, multi-scale design that anchors the instrument with exceptional sustain, stability and note-to-note consistency. Its 35"–37" scale length increases string tension on the low B for enhanced clarity, projection and definition, while maintaining a comfortable feel across the higher strings. A five-piece maple and walnut neck reinforced with graphite rods provides rock-solid stability and articulate response across the entire range. Okoume body wings contribute balanced resonance and a bright, focused tonal foundation, while the seamless neck-through construction ensures smooth access to upper frets and a cohesive, resonant feel throughout the instrument.
Panga Panga Fingerboard and Reinforced Neck for Stability and Control
A five-piece maple and walnut neck reinforced with graphite rods forms a rigid, highly responsive backbone for the BTB605MS, delivering excellent stability, sustain and clarity across its extended multi-scale range. Paired with a panga panga fingerboard, the neck produces a tight, focused low end, pronounced midrange presence and crisp high-end attack that supports fast, technical playing with precision. Medium stainless-steel frets offer smooth note definition and long-term durability, maintaining consistent feel and performance across the entire fingerboard.
T1 Pickups and Ibanez Custom Electronics for Detailed, Modern Tone Shaping
Ibanez T1 pickups give the BTB605MS a powerful, modern voice built around clarity and control. Each pickup features independently mounted dual coils with adjustable height, allowing players to fine-tune string balance and tonal response with exceptional precision. This design also improves ergonomic comfort, providing a natural thumb-resting surface that remains parallel to the strings across the multi-scale layout. Ibanez Custom Electronics add a three-band EQ with a three-way mid-frequency switch for detailed tone shaping, while an EQ bypass option allows passive operation with the treble knob functioning as a global tone control. The result is a versatile electronics platform capable of everything from tight, percussive attack to broad, full-range warmth.
MR5S Bridge and Road-Ready Hardware for a Dialed-In Feel
The Ibanez MR5S bridge allows adjustable string spacing of ±1.5 mm, giving players the freedom to tailor the setup to their technique and playing style. Its solid construction promotes efficient string vibration transfer, supporting sustain and note definition across the extended scale length. Designed for serious use, the BTB605MS includes a protective Ibanez hardshell case, ensuring secure transport and long-term protection for the instrument.
The Ibanez BTB605MS: Extended Scale Precision With Boutique-Inspired Performance
With its longer multi-scale design, neck-thru construction and precision-focused electronics, the Ibanez Bass Workshop BTB605MS is engineered for players who demand uncompromising clarity and control. From its articulate T1 pickups and flexible EQ system to its stable graphite-reinforced neck and resonant okoume body wings, every element is designed to support modern bass performance at a high level. Built to explore deeper tunings, complex arrangements and extended-range expression, the BTB605MS delivers a refined, powerful playing experience shaped by Ibanez’s ongoing commitment to innovation.

Fantastic Extra Long Scale bass!

I've had this bass for a couple months now. Right out of the gate I loved the feel of it. I set it up for the low tunings that my band uses and quickly fell in love with the incredible clarity of the lowest notes. The 37" scale is actually pretty easy to adjust to, even without having big hands. The fan, although noticeable, feels natural, even with technical riffing. The pickups are great. Tonally they sit about halfway between a Dingwall and a MM Stingray. Crisp and clear with some muscle. The EQ is quite versatile. Before I got it, I thought I might replace the preamp. After using it for a few shows, I am sticking with the stock pre. I've used it in both a metalcore band and in a church setting. It can easily cover both very different sides of the coin. It can clank when you need it to, but it can warm up and provide thick, rich tones. Fretwork and neck is sublime. The zero fret is a nice touch for maintaining low action. Neck has proven stable even traveling between indoor and outdoor venues. Intonation is precise, even with the larger string guages and lowered tunings. Honestly the only possible change I might make will be the tuning machines. They work decently well, but I prefer the Hipshots on my Dingwall NG3. Seriously though, if you need a solid workhorse and want to try a bass with a 37" scale this thing will not disappoint. It punches WAY above it's price point. My other bass is a Dingwall NG3, and it more than holds its own. I actually prefer it for some things. It also looks even cooler in person than it does online.
