About Hohner:
Hohner is a family company founded in 1857 in Trossingen, Germany by Matthias Hohner. Hand-made quality and close attention to detail has set Hohner apart from the beginning. A top leading brand in harmonicas, Hohner harps are distributed worldwide. Hohner harmonicas are played on the street by buskers, in intimate nightclubs, on festival stages, and even in Carnegie Hall. Despite a diverse harmonica line used in music from country to classical genres, the most famous Hohner harmonicas are their simple, 10-hole diatonics used frequently by blues, rock, country, and folk musicians.

It seems everything is made in China these days, nice harp for the price but I don't expect it to last long.

I recieved the 2 Hohner Old Standbys yesterday. I opened the Bb harp first, gave it a try and thought what a deal! Feels solid, plays well sounds great. Then I opened the one in the key of A and found hole 3 totally dead on blow and draw, and holes 6 thru 10 performing poorly and the whole harp generally difficult to play. I took the thing apart found brass filings inside and some stuck reeds. I gave it a thorough cleaning and hand tuned the reeds with the help of a web search, and after an hour or so of work, have another great harp, almost but not quite as good as my German harps. Its working perfectly. I think this indicates some quality control issues with the China made Hohners. I will order more of these. They turned out to be great harps. I enjoy tinkering with instuments, but if you lack the skill, or confidence to do some tuning and modifying on your own you may want to invest in a German made Hohner.

I ordered this harmonica as a low-end option so that I did not have to worry about losing it or damaging it. Additionally, I did not expect the sound quality to be all that great. However, I did expect it to play. I can't even use it for the one song that I ordered it for. If you need to draw on a single note, you will not be happy. For that matter, if you need to play any single note, you will probably end up red in the face for more than one reason. Do not consider buying this harmonica for a beginner or they will never play. This is a non-returnable item for Guitar Center. Probably a good choice on their part. By the way, I have a Hohner Golden Melody that plays well except for one note.

  • Great product selection, service, and price
