I had low hopes for this inexpensive little guitar. But, I am very happy and think at this price it will make great Holiday gifts. Also great how to play CD and book. Plus YouTube videos.

Lots of fun; great gift!

I don't have a lot of money, and I wanted a fun Christmas present for myself. This guitar was a good choice. I'm not a guitarist, but a percussionist who craves a melodic outlet. This little number is easy to put together (although the pickup came loose and fell inside, and I'm not sure how to fix it) and easy to learn. The real star here is the CD/Instruction booklet. The history of the cigar box guitar is fascinating, and the instructions are clear and accurate. Not a professional instrument by any means, but it's a ton of fun, and I do plan to use it in a composition once I've got the technique down.

    So the stings absolutely exploded when I tried to string this up because the book does not specify the octave that it should be strung in. So for that G2 D3 G3 is probably the best move. I tried to do G3 D4 G4 because it was a shorter neck and the first one held but the other two did not. Other wise seems well constructed.

    I bought this on impulse, as easier, cheaper, financial choice. To the more expensive commitments of a resonator or dobro. The pickup is of clean, crisp sound. It's just as versatile as any guitar and sounds good thru any of my effects. Mainly the phaser and Mesa boogie V2 tube preamp. My main suggestion is, build your own box for it. It's paper laminate box isn't meant for heavy, long term use. A bigger, real wood, box will add to its size and weight. Giving it the feel of a more quality, long term instrument.

    It comes with a nice instruction booklet and audio CD. I have not used the CD yet but the instruction booklet is very helpful with the minor assembly needed. The tuning gears are much better than I expected, it stays in tune a long time. I got it to learn about playing slide and I'm very happy with the glass slide included.I don't have an amp to plug it into, but it's loud enough acoustically for my purposes. Maybe I'll buy a cheap amp. It doesn't have frets, doesn't need them, neck positions are clearly marked. Good quality strings. Pretty good deal for less than forty bucks.

    Acoustic Extra-Light 3-String Cigar Box Guitar Strings - Open G/Standard Tuning - GBD/GBE. You would use the highest 3 strings on an acoustic guitar.
