Used for violin/viola/cello, the amber (light) is slightly hard and has moderate powder. The dark (green) is slightly softer and grips better than the amber.

    Came stuck to the "pretty" packaging and also was cracked but appeared to be melted together. Unable to use. Bad packaging, bad presentation.

    I tried this rosin based on the review, after reading it had been recommended by a fellow violin instructor. I decided to try it myself. This rosin is wonderful, the sound on my instrument really projects more, and bow changes are easier too. I do not ever want to change to another brand of rosin. I really noticed the difference immediately. it also adheres to the bow pretty well.

    I purchased this rosin about two weeks ago for my 14-year-old daughter. It was recommended by her violin teacher. There is a huge difference in tone quality between the old light rosin she had been using and the Hill dark rosin. The dark rosin gives her a very good tone, even on the high notes. It really opens up the sound of the instrument. I told my daughter not to use any other rosin ever again. The tone she gets with this is amazing. I highly recommend this product.
