Not as rich of a brassy tone as you get from a metal kazoo, but c'mon we're talking about a kazoo here. These work fine and sound fine too. I made a mute for mine by putting some gaffer's tape over the most of the hole on top of the resonator and the tone is not half bad.

This is clearly a fun instrument. Ever since I saw Clapton's 1990 Unplugged vid where the band members broke out their kazoos to jam, I've always had one. It's fun to enjoy these with your kids/grandkids. They teach them percussive-type music & fun at the same time. Whether played for serious recording or having fun, these kazoos do the trick. The different colors bring attention, too! Highly recommended!
