I've used this lap steel ...

I've used this lap steel guitar on a couple of occasions. To start out with, this thing is visually stunning. As you can see by the pictures, Gretsch didn't skimp out of the looks even though it's one of the cheaper instruments they sell. Don't let that fool you though, this is reliable and it's tone sounds great. The single coil pickup sounds very good. Overall, I'd reccomend this for somebody would wanted to learn to play lap steel and even to someone who was more advanced.

Feels cheap

It feels tinny, cheap pickups, and is set up too low. You would be better to get something a little higher quality. Probably find good used ones that are better.

Learning and playing in completely new ways! It's a lot of fun, not difficult to get started, and the sky's the limit for the ambitious

I had been looking for another instrument to add to my bag of tricks, and a lap steel was at the top of the list. When it arrived I was amazed at the quality for the price.....yes it's made in China but don't let that worry you. The finish is top shelf and it plays and stays in tune as good as a lap steel ten times the price. I already have another one ordered to have another tuning/ string gauge on hand. Can't go wrong with Gretsch!

  • Just what I needed.

This lap steel is well designed and sounds great. It is also one of a very few that have enough room in the bridge area to add a Duesenberg multibender, a mod that I wished make.

To follow up on the earlier question about being in C6 tuning. I have recently purchased this guitar as well as lessons on line. The individual mentioned about buying strings to tune it to C6. Do I need to do this or are the strings on this guitar able to be tune C6?

    Open Reply - Thomas
It should be already tuned to C6
