This Gretsch USA Custom Black Copper snare drum includes all the elements of a classic copper shell, but with a unique twist on the look and sound. Each of these snare drums starts with a 1 mm shell made from pure copper, a material known for its combination of dry warmth, punch and dynamic range. Then, Gretsch adds a rare detail: a thin layer of black powder coating, which adds a slight amount of control to the overall sonic character, keeping overtones in check while also giving the drum a look that is muted yet striking. The finishing touch is a laser-engraved round badge logo, exposing the copper shell hidden underneath. Extra features on this unique instrument are the Lightning throw-off, snappy 42-strand snare wires, die cast hoops and Snap-In drum key holder.
