Description
Finally, the breakthrough you've been waiting for. Now you can have it all - the great tone of TUSQ, classic good looks AND permanent lubrication. If you love the look of a vintage white nut, but you keep going out of tune when you bend strings or use your tremolo, then TUSQ XL is just what you need.
TUSQ XL is designed to boost guitar tone and performance. This precision engineered nut is made with a specially formulated material which couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man made ivory, but is impregnated with Teflon to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.
If you have an acoustic or vintage guitar, you owe it to yourself to hear the difference a TUSQ replacement guitar nut makes. Compared to standard materials such as bone, Micarta or Corian, you'll hear more harmonics with every note you play when you use TUSQ on your guitar.
TUSQ is a proprietary material that is precision engineered under high pressure and heat. It is specifically formulated to deliver the right frequencies with the optimum transfer rate to the top of your guitar every time. Because of the way TUSQ replacement guitar nut is made, it is a consistent material that is rich in tone and harmonic content.
TUSQ guitar parts have quickly become an important tone performance tool for some of the world's most renowned guitar manufacturers, luthiers and playing professionals. TUSQ nuts and saddles have rich tone and sustain, without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ replacement guitar nuts are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body. Acoustic guitars come alive. Electric guitars will get a brighter sound and increased harmonic content.

Works as advertised. My guitar sounds and plays better.
The nut on my new Epiphone ES-335 was made of cheap, crumbly plastic. (The rest of the guitar was excellent.) So an upgrade was necessary. The Tusq online how-to video just happened to demo the installation process with an identical guitar, and that was helpful, but the video is excellent regardless of the guitar you own. After I had the nut properly sanded to fit, I did have to open and deepen the slot for the 6th string, as it was too narrow and the string didn't seat properly. The 5th, 4th, and 3rd strings slots were also just a little high compared to the 2nd and 1st, so I filed each of them just a bit (not much!). That's not a job for a beginner, so you may want to consult a luthier if you're not experienced in this sort of work. But the nut works as advertised. The tone is clearer, more complex, and just a bit brighter, compared to the stock nut. The strings don't bind in the slots, as the nut is self-lubricating, so tuning stability is also improved. Money well spent!

Good Product
I bought this for my Epiphone Les Paul to try to improve tuning stability and have definitely noticed a difference. I had to buy two however because the first one I sanded down a little bit but it was already too short and my strings buzzed. Be careful when sanding! #sweepstakes

Bought this 1/4" Tusq nut for my ES-335 clone and installed it myself. The old one came out pretty easily with a gentle tug from a pair of pliers. New nut snuggled into the space left by the old nut and now my strings slide smooth as butter! #sweepstakes
Wow! What a difference this made.

I replaced the black plastic nut that came on my Epi SG 335 and while at it lowered the string height to 2mm at first fret. Then new strings and Boom! It's like a different higher end guitar. I had been considering trading the Epi in on another SG but the Tusq did the trick.

I bought this to replace the stock nut on my Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro Plustop, which had constant pinging and tuning issues in spite of an otherwise great setup. This nut was perfect after just a bit of sanding for height and length. No more pinging, and no more tuning problems.
Awesome
