Gibson Les Paul Trad Pro V | First Impressions w/ Devon Allman & Duane Betts

Gibson

collapse expand iconDescription

While the Gibson Trad Pro V electric guitar shares a lot of characteristics as a classic Les Paul, it’s an instrument that’s all its own. Featuring a mahogany body and neck with a carved maple top—like the Les Paul—the Gibson Trad Pro V also features a weight-relieved body, which makes it super comfortable to play and hold. You’ll be able to sling it on your shoulder with ease. The neck also has an asymmetrical shape that fits in your hand like a glove. With the compound radius on the rosewood fretboard, you’ll find it easier to land those solos in higher registers. Feel and hear the difference with the Gibson Trad Pro V electric guitar.

Weight-Relieved Mahogany Body

One of the most attractive benefits of the Gibson Trad Pro V electric guitar is its weight-relieved body. This design makes it super comfortable to play and sling over your shoulder.

Tradbucker Pickups Pack a Punch

The Gibson Trad Pro V is loaded with a pair of Tradbucker pickups that really pack a punch. In the neck position, the humbucker is underwound, which produces a warm and organic sound. In contrast, the pickup in the bridge position is overwound, which increases the output. With accompanying Alnico V magnets and a push/pull that performs a coil split or a coil tap, you can tweak your tones to your heart’s desire. When you’re in coil-split mode, the treble tone push/pull toggles between the inner and outer coils. Alternatively, the rhythm tone push/pull will activate a phase switch, which is ideal when your tone pool is filled with deep British blues.

Comfortable Playability

Adding to its easy playability is the neck, which has an asymmetrical shape so it fits like a glove in your hand. The compound radius rosewood fretboard also makes it easier to solo in higher registers. A hardshell case is included.

Been playing 30 years, best Les Paul I have come across.

So in the 30 years I have been playing I have owned 5 Les Pauls and have played more than can be counted. I have always had love hate relationship with Les Pauls. I love the look, love the sound. However, I always hated the necks, too thick and sticky. Also they are incredibly heavy. Then in 2017 as we all know the quality was terrible and here I shelled out 3k for new Les Paul that I spent another $500 trying to make it right. I swore I would never buy another Les Paul. My local GC guy told me he would find me one I couldn't resist. He tried many times, to no avail. Then this one came in. I played it unplugged and it just felt right. I mean it really felt right. The asymmetrical neck just feels good to me. If you want to compare it to what I normally play and love, PRS Pattern Thin, and Schecter Modern C, Also the ESP Thin U. I love all those neck profiles. This asymmetrical just felt right at home. It really feels good with that compound radius. Most importantly it is not sticky. Also not sure what all the weight averages are and maybe I got lucky but mine is a hair over 8lbs. So I wouldn't call it heavy. Huge range of tonal possibilities. I am still exploring what it can do honestly. Being able to coil tap or Coil Split is huge. For a clean tone I have always loved the Bridge Humbucker and a Neck Single coil. Not something you get from a regular Les Paul but this is a great sound for this guitar. Now my only complaint, was I got the Wine Red, I just didn't think the cream accent colors went well with it. I from Gibson site I ordered Black Pickguard, Pickup Ring, Poker chip. and Black Knobs. Gave it a darker look I like for slightly little more cash. Leaving the black and cream bobbins on the pickups to match the binding. Then just to address the one bad review, many manufacturers are doing satin finishes now including PRS. Also Les Paul Standard pickups were covered much later in life. In fact the cream and black bobbins on the pickups are history.

Can't play it out of the box

I received the guitar today. It arrived in a black case instead of the usual brown Gibson. The neck is very bowed. It looks like it sat on a shelf drying out for years. I have never received a Gibson in worse shape. I will test it later and decide if it is worth getting a professional setup. If the electronics function correctly and a setup is warranted, it will need a few weeks with a hydro system first. I usually buy guitars from a different retailer that specializes in taking care of the instrument before delivering to a customer. GC appears to not care about the customer experience. I am let down again. 3 stars for the retailer.

This is a work horse guitar. It's not made to look pretty but is built to be versatile. I have had, played and worked on over 100 les Paul's and this one rings more with all Mahogany body and satin finish. A real gem for studio and Live playing.

This is only the second guitar I have ever owned, I bought it using money I saved up from my first job and it was worth it, I play it nearly every day and have had no problems with it. I bought it almost two years ago at this point, and it still plays good as new. I wouldn't describe myself as someone who knows a whole lot about the workings of a guitar, but from what I can tell, it works perfectly fine and isn't showing signs of any issues. The neck is holding up and it still has the same shine it did when I got it. The only complaint I would have is that it is considerably heavier than any other guitar I've played.

  • Finally got my dream LP

After 20 years of playing I finally got the one guitar in my collection I was missing,a Gibson les paul. Got it on sale during the guitar -a-thon sale in May '24. Played several different LP models from the tribute to the standard 50's and 60's. I personally liked the trad Pro V and the standard 60's the best as far as feel, sound and looks. When I seen the trad Pro V on sale I jumped on it and took advantage of the opportunity since it's a fair bit more affordable than the standard. I wondered if I would regret not getting a standard but I absolutely have not .... this trad pro V is spot on. Everything about it is perfect. It's gorgeous (satin iced tea),the asymmetrical neck feels awesome and is a joy to play, and the tradbuckers sounds phenomenal through my crate half stack and my EVH 5150 combo. I mainly play classic rock, newer rock (2000's),blues and country and this does well with all. I also have a '03 fender standard strat,'23 fender Nashville tele, and a '05 Gibson SG faded. Love them all for different reasons. Definitely recommend this LP if you are looking for one. Love mine!!!
