Solid Sitka Spruce and Walnut for a Distinctive Tonal Profile

The J-45 Studio Walnut pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with solid walnut back and sides, creating a rich tonal foundation that is both warm and articulate. Sitka spruce is renowned for its ability to produce a wide dynamic range, making it ideal for capturing expressive playing styles. Walnut adds depth and warmth, with a natural resonance that enhances the guitar's overall sonic character. This combination ensures a well-rounded tonal palette—bright and clear highs, robust mids and a resonant low end. Whether strumming or fingerpicking, this tonewood pairing offers an inspiring sound with exceptional sustain.

Gibson Advanced Response Neck for a Sleek, Smooth Feel

The J-45 Studio Walnut features a utile neck with Gibson's Advanced Response profile, designed to enhance comfort and playability. The neck's slightly thinner taper and rounded edges provide a smooth, ergonomic feel, allowing for seamless transitions across the walnut fingerboard. The 24.75" scale length ensures a balanced tension, making bends and intricate fretting effortless. The 1.725" nut width offers ample string spacing for precise finger placement, ensuring accuracy during complex chord voicings or intricate melodic runs. This thoughtfully crafted neck design makes the instrument a joy to play, even during extended sessions.

L.R. Baggs Element Bronze Electronics for Natural Amplified Sound

Equipped with the L.R. Baggs Element Bronze active under-saddle piezo pickup, the J-45 Studio Walnut translates its natural acoustic tone seamlessly into amplified settings. The pickup's design captures the full frequency range of the guitar, preserving the warmth and clarity of its unplugged sound. A soundhole-mounted preamp allows for intuitive control, while the system's active design ensures a clean, professional-grade signal for live performances or recording. With its ability to faithfully reproduce every nuance of your playing, this refined acoustic-electric excels in both studio and stage environments.

Premium Gibson Construction for Long-Lasting Performance

The Gibson J-45 Studio Walnut is built with premium materials and meticulous craftsmanship to ensure long-lasting performance. The walnut fingerboard and bridge enhance tonal transfer, while the Tusq saddle and nut improve intonation and sustain. Grover Rotomatic tuners provide precise tuning stability, even under demanding conditions. The high-quality nitrocellulose lacquer finish not only enhances the guitar's natural beauty but also allows the wood to age gracefully, improving tonal response over time. With its included hardshell case, this guitar is well-protected for travel, making it a reliable companion for years of use.

  • Better than a vintage Martin out of the box.

I played at least 20 Martins and Taylors before picking up this guitar. After a minute or two of playing this guitar, I knew I was buying it. None of the brand-new Martin or Taylor guitars had that immediate effect on me. I inherited a vintage Martin that sounds outstanding, but I wanted to pick out a really nice guitar of my own. This guitar was a little over my intended price range, but I do not regret coughing up the extra cash. It was worth every penny. Since bringing this guitar home, I've neglected both my vintage Martin and my newer, middle-of-the-pack Martin. This guitar simply feels and sounds incredible. I'm not sure how to describe it, but my favorite thing about this guitar is the gritty growl you can get out of it when you really dig in. This fits my playing style perfectly. I can't imagine this guitar sounding any better, but I can't wait to see how it ages. If you're debating this purchase, pull the trigger. You will not regret it.

  • I would buy this again

The beautiful walnut studio exceeded all my expectations. Balanced lows, a strong mid range and sparkling highs. Gibson totally got it right with this reworked J45 Studio. L. R. Baggs pickup allows this guitar to sound like a natural acoustic guitar. Not only is walnut a beautiful wood, it sounds amazing when paired with their spruce top. I can see why Gibson often refers to the J45 as their workhorse guitar. It can take anything you throw at it. To my ears, it even sounds better than their standard J45. Yes, it's a bit pricey however all Gibson guitars are made in the US. Life is short...buy this guitar.

  • Definitely worth the wait.

I went to my local Guitar Center to purchase the Gibson J 45 Studio Walnut burst acoustic guitar, they had one in stock and it had been sitting high up in the rack for quite a while. Sadly, it was in bad shape. It also happened to be on sale but there was no way that I could purchase this guitar, it needed too much work. The salesman checked to see if they had any more of these models in their Regional warehouses and it just so happened that there was 15 left. He ordered it for me and I had it delivered directly to the store and picked it up after work. It took about 5 days for it to arrive. I got it home and opened the box and what was inside was absolutely stunning. Perfectly set up perfect intonation and in perfect condition. Mine were the first hands on this guitar since it left the Gibson Factory. The checklist card was tucked neatly into the strings. I took it out tuned it up slightly and started playing. Man, I can't believe how beautiful this guitar sounds. I was a little skeptical of the Walnut body and walnut fretboard but after playing this thing for a couple of days I couldn't be happier. The tone of this guitar just resonates and for all those naysayers trying to bash this guitar when they've never even picked one up don't believe it. This guitar is one of the most beautiful sounding acoustic guitars that I've ever played and I've played quite a few over the last 40 years. I couldn't be happier.

  • A Great Sounding Gibson That Might Be Getting Overlooked

I went into GC to compare a Gibson J-45 Standard and a Martin D-28 but stumbled on this J-45 Studio in walnut. I went with the J-45 studio walnut solely because it just sounded better to me. This is the updated studio series that now has the same depth as the J-45 standard, not the previous version's shallow depth studio. GC has both versions (old and new) on their website, so make sure to read the description to understand which one is the shallow depth model and which one is the deeper body model. Frankly, Gibson has not done a great job announcing that there is a new version of the Studio J-45. There is nothing on Youtube, nothing really on Gibson's website other than describing it as a "traditional depth". I actually had to message Gibson to get the details. Long story short, the new J-45 studio is just like the standard except it has walnut or rosewood B/S and a Utile neck instead of a mahogany neck. The walnut has a walnut fretboard. I've often heard that Gibsons are inconsistent from guitar to guitar, because they are handmade. Thus, your mileage may vary, but to me this J-45 studio is a ringer! It booms with resonate sound and lingering sustain. I could not be happier with my purchase!

I must say, this guitar is incredibly forgiving of mistakes and produces a beautifully smooth sound. I absolutely love it and highly recommend it to anyone who, like me, has been hesitant or indecisive about choosing the right instrument.
