Gibson Custom Shop | Introducing the Murphy Lab
Description
The historic 1956 Les Paul Goldtop returns in this vintage reissue from Gibson Custom Shop. With screaming P-90 pickups, an ABR-1 bridge and a lightweight stopbar tailpiece, every detail has been painstakingly recreated. The following year, Gibson would move on to the more modern PAF pickups, but there are many who love the warm, big sound of those vintage P-90s. This pickup and bridge combination delivers a versatile sound that goes from a glassy, bell-like tone to overdriven grunge, making the 1956 Goldtop Reissue suitable for a variety of styles. Featuring a fat ‘50s mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard and a mahogany body topped with maple, this Gibson Custom 1956 Les Paul has also been very lightly aged for just a hint of stage wear. This classic Goldtop reissue is available now at Guitar Center.
The Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1956 Les Paul Goldtop comes with a certificate of authenticity and an aged brown and pink Lifton reissue 5-latch hard case.

Iconic Les Paul Body
The Les Paul is one of the most instantly recognizable guitar body shapes in history. This 1956 Goldtop Les Paul features a 2-piece maple top paired with a solid mahogany body that matches the construction methods and contours of the original models. Relatively lightweight for a Les Paul, the ’56 Goldtop weighs in at just under 9 lb.Thick ‘50s Mahogany Neck
The 1956 Les Paul Reissue features a fat C neck for a comfortable feel while playing. Made of durable mahogany, this Goldtop electric offers a fantastic mid-range with plenty of warmth and character.Versatile & Vintage P90s
While the Les Paul models following the 1956 Goldtop would go on to incorporate the PAF pickups, the classic P90 sound is still highly sought after. For those seeking a muddier, less refined tone, this Gibson Custom Reissue offers a unique single-coil sound that plays by its own rules.Authentically-Aged Finish
Tom Murphy was instrumental in setting up the Gibson Custom Shop. For the last 25 years, he’s perfected the art and science of aging instruments. Murphy’s team gives this Les Paul Goldtop a very lightly aged finish—only the lightest touches are utilized.
