The rims that you put on a snare drum can really change the character & sound. I had always paid the extra bucks for the Yamaha wood hoops because the old Gibraltar hoops just didn't cut it. The plies didn't seem as compressed & solid. Also to my ears, there just wasn't the same ring & liveliness that the Yamahas produced. After a year the outer plies would begin to peel off also where as the Yamahas held up & were quite obviously of better quality. I was intrigued when I saw the collaborative pairing of Dunnett & Gibraltar. Although I've just started using them, the quality difference seems obvious right out of the box!! They are ROCK SOLID & contoured like steel die cast hoops. Rim shots resonate through the drum & make the snare lively for second line type playing. Side by side these rims are hands down the best around. The price for the quality is reasonable also. I would recommend the NEW Gibraltar wood hoops without reservation.
