Fostex

Description

For mastering purposes, the Fostex CR500 recorder offers the world-first direct BWF recording onto UDF formatted CDs at up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution. The file is fully compatible with PC workstations with data transfers requiring a simple copy and paste procedure instead of realtime audio ripping. In addition, the CR500 master recorder is ideal for DAT archiving in the standard 16-bit/48kHz format.

On the playback side, the Fostex CR500 recorder offers many useful functions such as Instant Play, Fader Start, built-in memory for cue point and program play per each disk (up to 100 discs), for versatile applications such as event playback, stage playback as well as broadcast playback.

Unfortunately, this was not a great experience. We ordered a new recorder, but was sent a used one. Still awaiting our refund.

If you want to manually add tracks to a recording it always adds a 100ms Gap between tracks with no adjustment for this. I will be selling mine in favor for one that does.

I have a Fostex reel-to-reel unit that I still use and hundreds of hours of music that I needed to burn onto cd. My main purpose for purchasing the CR500 was to get everything onto cd's, and the analog input and recording process couldn't be more simple. I was burning cd's within 10 minutes of opening and rack mounting the unit. I am not digital/computer-literate and am so happy with the ease and funtionality of the analog to digital process of the CR500. I'm sure there are many applications that I will never use with this unit, so I can't give a complete "across the board" review of everything this unit does and should do. All I can say is that I am extremely pleased with what it does for me being "old school" and still using analog recording products...I can quickly and easily preserve my work digitally while keeping the warm analog and "hands-on" sound that I love so much with my old gear...the best of both worlds.
