Devin Townsend Signature Series Play Through - Fishman Fluence

Fishman

Description

Devin Townsend's music covers a lot of ground, both subtle and dynamic. It’s about the interaction between two very distinct styles. It can be both very heavy and very gentle. To create a pickup set that can legitimately straddle these diverse worlds, Townsend worked closely with Fishman R&D to build in very specific attributes that sonically react like two entirely different instruments for this Fluence Signature Series Devin Townsend 6-string pickup set.

Townsend describes himself as "a human being who’s trying to make a better version of himself, with the by-product of that process being music. Music that seems to come out in as many different emotional ways as life presents. Music that has always had as its aim the ability to transcend.

Transcendence is the thematic inspiration for my signature pickups. The goal was to merge two opposite ends of the sonic spectrum into one product and I’m proud to say we have strongly achieved that."

What you get with these pickups:
Voice 1 - "My heavy metal voice." Pole pieces for more "sonic havoc" when compared to blade magnets
Voice 2 - "A low-gain, single coil, passive, sweet-sounding tone which I prefer in the single coil mode" that hits amps and compressors "just so," creating a both-pickups-on clean tone and overall volume drop that enhances the effect of switching from dirty to clean sounds

These pickups are Multi-Voice and can be installed set and forget or wired-up to toggle between two musically complimentary voices. Drop them right in and replace standard humbucker pickups. Also, the Signature Series Devin Townsend are rechargeable without needing to remove them from your guitar. An optional lithium-ion battery pack (sold separately) offers weeks, not hours, of playing time.

Fishman Fluence Pickups
The electric guitar pickup has been wound since 1934. 80 years later, we’ve unwound it. Original and totally reimagined, Fishman Fluence pickups are free from the hum, noise and frustrating inductance issues that plague even the most coveted wire-wound pickups—revealing pure, uncorrupted and musical tone.

Each Fishman Fluence pickup, like this Devin Townsend Signature pickup set, has two distinct and useful sounds onboard. These sounds start with the revolutionary Fluence Core, the heart of Fluence tone. From this Fluence Core they then create the classic timbres and tone—colors you expect from great guitar pickups—as well as some you've never expected. Had this set installed in my PRS Custom 24 replacing the 59/09's. I loved the 59/09's but needed a stronger output for high gain stuff. My goal was to keep the guitar extremely versatile. These Fishman's are good pickups. A bit more life than EMG's but not quite as dynamic as passive humbuckers. I have the tone knob as a push/pull for both voicings which offer good variety though I mainly use voice 1. They aren't as harmonic as the 59/09's which is a bit disappointing. Also when rolling off the volume it seems to do just that, reduce the volume rather than "clean up" a overdriven sound. That's been the most disappointing part for me as I control my gain level a lot with my guitars volume. I go back and forth if I made the right choice for me. I like the set overall but it leaves me still wanting a bit more out of them.
