Versatile
I bought this because I wanted something portable (I travel a lot), with a good tube Fender sound, and also with some effects so I don't have to tote around a ton of pedals. This fits the bill. I don't know of another product that checks all those boxes. In the store I liked the sound quality, but once I took it home I realized that over about 1/2 volume the shortcomings of the flimsy stock speaker become really apparent. Like lot of people, I replaced it with a Ragin Cajun. I'm still not sure I wouldn't have been better off with something like a Celestion Greenback, which is truer to the sound profile of the Fender speaker, but the RC keeps sounding better and better as it breaks in. It's certainly louder. One defect that really bugs me about this amp: There are at least a couple significant rattles in the cabinet. At some frequencies one of the solid state boxes that protrudes down from the amp section rattles. At others the 12AX7 preamp tube itself rattles. I don't know what to do about this without taking the whole thing apart, and the rattles are very annoying. The line out sound quality is super great. This is why I wonder if I bought the right speaker. I have a couple minor gripes about where I think Fender really dropped the ball on a good idea: 1) The tap setting is great to set your rate of tremolo/chorus/vibraphone, but once you twist the f/x knob or turn the amp off, you lose the rate and have to set it again. 2) The F/X select knob has 16 positions which could have been better utilized. For example, there are 3 reverbs and 3 tremolos where one of each would do, but no possibility to combine reverb with tremolo! 3) A mid range tone knob on the amp would have been very nice, although there is one in the software. All in all, I like this amp very much. You could spend twice as much and get maybe marginally better quality tube sound, but you'd lose the portability, versatility, and hundreds of dollars in the bargain.

A love hate relationship!!!
Initially, I fell in love with this amp. I really like the sound I get out of channel one. I even like several of the amp models on channel 2. It worked for me at local jam sessions and events and parties. Well, it worked for 15 days. That's right...15 days. I had about 30 hours of break in time on the amp. It has been played every day since 12/15/18 until today 12/30/18. Two events and one jam session and daily practice...a power tube goes out! Really, in 15 days. Very disappointed. Waiting on a response from Fender. Got some new tubes on the way from the tube store. Should be better replacement tubes. Do not want GT tubes any more. See you later. Great versatile amp to give up on so easily. Now about that speaker....???

I now just use it at home since I'm retired and no longer play live. If you actuall need more power for outdoor gigs then look for an old Peavey Special, etc and use the line out into it. Its real easy to eq the Peavey to sound like the Super Champ then use the Super Champ for the sound control.....Small gigs won't require and additional amp.
Incredible versatility

At volume 2 it's perfect for practicing at home. Turned up to 6 it's loud enough to gig with.

I wanted the head and 1x12 cab version, but this was on the floor at GC. Mid pandemic, I was glad to find anything. Really like a lot of the voicing, however, after four months of mostly in house low volume noodling, the power tubes died. I would recommend the amp, but GET THE WARRANTY!

I use this for gigging. I throw a Sennheiser e 609 in front and I have an excellent gigging amp. The Clean channel is excellent and I use the 6, 10, and 12 voices for most others. This amp has plenty of power for rehearsals, small to medium sized venues and as I said, mic it and you're good to go for outdoor shows. Small, lightweight, and it accepts pedals very well. I would absolutely recommend this to a friend.
I would buy this again as a first amp.

Tube amp with modeling capabilities too. Great for a small home studio. I have not found anything I dislike except this amp used to use the FUSE software that is now not being supported by Fender anymore.

Studio amp for recording and practice. Could be used for a coffee shop performance. Unfortunately, Fender doesn't support the FUSE program anymore but you can still download the software on another site and use the program.

Looking for a tube-sounding low-watt amp to use at home. Been looking hard at the Fender Champion 40 with a 12" speaker, but now I see the Fender Super Champ X-2. Real tubes here, but only 10" speaker. How do these compare? Don`t need digital effects , have good pedals. Neither amp has tank reverb unfortunately.
These will be almost identical with the exception of the speaker sizesubmitted5 years ago

I have a Fender Super Champ XD It suddenly sounds like I have a broken speaker. I don't and all the tubes are good. I loved this amp and used it in the studio only. What is the difference with this amp and the Super Champ X2?
This is basically the updated version of it. it will have similar sound and quality, just newer components.submitted6 years ago

Is the Fender Super-Champ X2 amp considered to be a 100%" tube amp, or is it considered a hybrid amp? I've seen conflicting comments/reviews/opinions in regards to this.
I would consider this more a hybrid amp.submitted6 years ago

Can you use this as the head to plug into the Super Champ X2 cabinet so you can get the better sound of a 12" speaker?
Yes and no. Some people claim you get a better sound out of it with a cab, but in my experience most of the time the adding of the cab to it doesn't make that much of a difference as far as sound goes. As for if it will work, yes. you can run the line out. if you want some options as far as which cabs will work, email us at YourVoice@GuitarCenter.com and we can help get the right setup for you.
