Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb-Amp Combo

This amp surpassed all expectations. It's a gem. If you're reading this, I'm sure you've seen all the reviews and online discussions about how noisy it can be and that it has a hiss. When I first turned it on, I barely heard anything. I'd say it makes about as much white noise or hiss as my Blues Junior if the volumes are roughly set the same. I'm not sure if Fender addressed the complaint for earlier models, but my 2013 Custom Vibrolux is NOT a noisy amp at all. Some say that these break up too early. Mine starts to break up at 4 when I play with my Tele. It breaks up a little earlier if playing through a humbucked guitar. Nonetheless, it breaks up beautifully and by the time it starts to break up, it's already loud enough to make the windows rattle. I'll also add that at bedroom volumes, I get still get sublime tones. No way I'm going to neuter it with the Moyer mods. It's a beautiful sounding amp and I'll treasure it for years. I'm totally whupped by it!

i spent most of last fall looking to upgrade my amp. i looked at most of the fenders and voxs out there, plus some of the dr z's and mesas that are available at vintage stores here in seattle. it came down to a vibrolux, a twin reverb, and an AC30x (the one with the alnico blues). the vibrolux was the winner. the dr z's were awesome, just out of my $$$ range, and when i came across the vibrolux, it was like "wow, you've been here all this time and i never even considered you..". seriously, i am so proud/happy/stoked to own this amp. incredibly touch responsive, can be as loud or quiet as you want it. the -6db inputs in the normal and bright channels are great for playing at home. plug in to the #1 bright channel, turn it to about 6, and you are pushing serious air. loud enough for most small clubs on its own. i play a clapton strat and an epiphone bb king lucille through this thing, and the tones i get just make me laugh. the strat just sings, like they were made for each other, and the lucille packs so much punch through those jensens its crazy. factor in my ts9 and my qtron, and, well, this is probably the setup i will keep for life. thank you fender for this amp. best $$ i ever spent.

Over the years I've owned several good tube amps.This is the best sounding of them all!The amp has a hiss in the preamp but that was fixed by replacing the tubes with NOS.This is a great amp,it's all i'll use from now on,Thanks Fender!

I've owned one of these amps for over 12 years and never experienced the HISSSS that one of the reviewers mentions, and it sounds like he/she has a technical issue with the amp. If the problem has existed with the amp from the beginning, then the reviewer should have mentioned it to the dealer shortly after purchase, since most music dealers have a 30-day return policy these days. My advice is this: take the amp to a reputable repair shop and get it fixed. Just because the amp is having technical issues doesn't mean that it's a systemic problem with the entire line of Vibrolux amps, as the reviewer suggests. Just as one needs to go to the dentist for a teeth cleaning every 6 months, or go to the doctor to get a physical exam once a year, high-end guitar amps needs occasional maintenance, too.

Not much to say here, I played the amp a few hours at a friends house, 3 days later bought one myself, it was between this and a vox ac30, i just felt the quality of the fender was better and the speakers are way better than the wharfdales, if you can afford the alnico blues then the vox is a contender but different, still Brit sound. I love the Vibrolux and will keep it for a long time, great investment, it feels/sounds like a A REAL Fender Amp.

These sound pretty good considering that they are new tube amps that are well priced, but they just simply don't sound like their amazing vintage counterparts. So, if you are absolutely set on finding that true, "surfy" 60's sound and are aware of the differences in tone between the new and old, you may want to go vintage instead ultimately. I may still buy one of these since they are fairly cheap, and more importantly a reliable backup to have around! However, the reverb and vibrato are nowhere near as wet, deep, and sexy sounding as my 67 Vibrolux or 68 Super Reverb. That's a simple fact--the reverb sounds very different compared to the vintage vibrolux amps. So, to end on a positive note though, these are apparently rather reliable, as mentioned, and with the right mods and changes in components it can be transformed into something even better! IE, the speakers could be better, as well as the tubes, and there are various mods that I have heard of to help with the reverb, vibrato, tone, etc, etc. This little amp sounds much better than the new custom shop, hand-wired Vibro-King that costs almost 4k, so that is worth considering as well! You are getting a better sounding amp that breaks up more easily for nice natural gain, and at almost 1/3 of the new Vibro King's ridiculous price! Keep at it Fender! Perhaps a true, custom shop Vibrolux would be an amazing amp for Fender to consider production of...hopefully better executed than the new Vibro-King.
