I recently purchased a Black Fender Custom Shop 1952 Telecaster with assistance from one of the GC Premium guys. It's a very simple guitar with an ash body and maple neck but the black paint is perfectly done, and the neck is flawless. The surprise for the player is the blender tone knob and how to properly use the 3 way switch. The pickup and tonal system are different from the modern Telecasters but after all what this guitar represents is the beginning story of the Telecaster. The electronics, hardware, wood and finish perfectly represent the history of the early Tele's and it is truly a guitar that will enhance the value of your collection. Bottom line, when you plug it in and acquaint yourself with how to integrate its tone with pedals and a good amp you will smile and be happy with your new (old)Tele.

Bought and returned. The description shows it has master volume and master tone. However, it really has the blender circuit in place of the tone. At first, I thought I got a dud. Then I checked the floor traveler, and sure enough, it read, 51 mod circuit. It's well made. And as with most Custom Shop guitars, it's a mish mash of old and new specs. I would have kept it, except for the blender circuit. On these 51 and 52 teles for 2022, Fender seems to be pushing the blender circuit. It would be better if they already came with modern wiring

    1. Does this have the compound radius (7.5 to 9.5, I believe) that helps with fretting out notes? 2. Could the pickguard be changed to black?

    Open Reply - Thomas
7.25" to 9.5" Vintage Compound Radius (184 mm to 241 mm). You can't modify a Custom Shop.
