I use nothing but Evans heads and I liked this head. I also used the EMAD clear which I prefer. I felt the EMAD has a more thumpy, deep, full but yet controlled and kinda punchy. Atleast on a 22" drum.

I have had this head for several weeks now and it lives up to what the description says it will do. I use it on a 1976 Slingerland 20" bass. It has great punch-nice low range and the muffling ring does a great job of keeping out unwanted higher overtones. It does have a loud boom, which I prefer for outside performances. But it is also great for studio sessions and small room work. I did have a Remo head on it for quite awhile-but much prefer the EQ4. The sound is unbeleivable. Much better than the Remo head. The EQ4 doesn't sound like plastic when the beater makes contact-but a smoothe, warm tone. If you like a warm, booming sound with great low end punch-this head is for you.
