How To Choose A Bass Drum Head

Description
The EVANS 22" EQ3 Resonant Black bass drum head, featuring an internal overtone control ring that delivers a warm, punchy bass drum sound with a short, controlled decay ideal for both live performance and recording. This innovative 10-mil, single-ply EVANS drum head provides unparalleled tone-shaping capabilities for your bass drum. The offset 5" hole streamlines microphone placement while the plastic sleeve protects the port and focuses pitch.
Overtone Control Ring Tames Unwanted Overtones
The EVANS EQ3 Resonant Black bass drum head incorporates an internal overtone control ring that effectively eliminates unwanted overtones, producing a focused bass drum sound with a controlled decay. This allows you to achieve a balanced, professional bass drum tone that sits perfectly in your overall drum mix.
10-mil Film Provides Ideal Thickness
At 10-mil thick, the single-ply film construction of the EVANS EQ3 Resonant Black bass drum head provides an ideal thickness for controlling bass drum resonance without sacrificing punch or low-end. The result is a bass drum tone with a balanced attack, body and decay that translates equally well on recordings and on stage.
Offset 5" Hole Simplifies Microphone Placement
The EQ3 features an offset 5" hole that provides convenient access for microphone placement while maintaining the structural integrity of the drum head. The offset position helps capture the balanced, toneful sound of your bass drum while keeping the microphone out of the way during performance.

I have been using Evan's for a long time and always have the best sound from them, the black eq resonate head is a must for rock/metal because of its low end sound it gives out and especially if your miking them, it makes it a lot easier
sounds great on my 18" bass drum

I bought this as a replacement for the stock resonant head on my Tama Silverstar 18" bass drum. I've had the drum for years was never able to get the low, punchy, thud I wanted no matter how I tuned or muffled it. (I should add here I have an Evans EMAD 2 for the batter head.) I figured it was because of the small drum size and I'd have to live with it for the convenience of lugging around an 18" vs. a larger drum. I finally broke down and bought a better quality resonant head. Put it on, tuned both the batter and resonant heads, put a rolled up towel against each head, and BOOM. There it was, that sweet low boomy thud I always wanted.

What I like about the Evans EQ3 Resonant head is that it gives good resonance control and great projection. The EQ3 delivers a warm and punchy sound with a, short decay that's ideal for both live and studio applications. They last long and they sound excellent with Evans Emad or Gmad batter heads.
Rumbling Growl

This drum head is the type with a rough plastic black surface, which is only somewhat reflective. The hole in the right side is a convenience for microphones and dampeners inside the drum. It's a lot better than taking the drum head off! This drum head has a built-in dampener which gives it one strong, rumbling tone to knock you down.
