EVANS

collapse expand iconDescription

The EVANS EC2 coated drum heads feature an Edge-Control ring mounted underneath two plies of 7 mm film. By controlling edge vibration instead of eliminating it, the ring isolates and damps higher overtones, enhancing low end and attack, and enabling a broader tuning range. The coated EVANS heads deliver additional warmth, focus and depth, plus a unique translucent appearance.

wow.

These heads are simply amazing. Being Christmas, I had some money to spend. After a lot of research, I chose these. I slapped them on, tuned them VERY carelessly (finger tight, 3 full rotations per lug) and hit them. I was blown away. They have a nice, short sustain with a terrific dark sound. No overtones are present at all :) If this is a concern to you, they are pretty loud (louder than my old, two ply, stock heads). I can't wait to sit down and take some time to tune them, they're amazing. As for the look, they're more translucent than completely coated. They look great, but if you want a head that's completely white, you're out of luck here. But if you're smart, the sound quality you get would be worth it. As for reliability: No promises yet. They feel great and solid, but I still don't know. Evan's website and the box they came in both say that EC2's are some of the most durable heads. I would recommend these to anybody.

Great for the first hour

These heads were very difficult to tune and made me second guess my ear. I could never get a tone that I was happy with, and it always seemed as if the heads sounded different day to day. After a month the heads sounded like stock heads on a new kit. I had a new set of G2's laying around so I put them on instead. I could instantly hear the difference in sound quality. I don't think the combination of coat and muffle work on a 2 ply head. They did, although, have a vintage sound for about the first hour of playing. Then they began to buzz and lose tuning. I don't recommend these for gigs in larger areas or outdoors. I think these heads are better at being quiet than producing quality sound.

These are my go to for bottom of my maple toms. Clear top, coated bottom, both tuned the same. Sounds absolutely wonderful with the exact rebound I've come to know and love. I'm using these for studio and live fyi.

I purchased the pack as a convenience thing at first. Once I got these installed and tuned I realized how much of an improvement these are over my usual choice. I'm using these in the studio and at shows! Universally sound!

Love the Evans EC2 SST drum heads. Very durable, easy to tune and gives a rich warm tone. I use these whenever I play with my rock band. Controls the over tones where I do not need any external dampening.

Switched from single clear heads to these. They did cut down some of the annoying over tones from my Mapex Voyager. Sounds nice with a set of Evans G1s on the bottom. The frosted coating has a nice feel and I think it's a good compromise between clear and a heavier coated heads

Yes, these drum heads are designed to be versatile. The only time you wouldn't be able to is if the head is specified as either a Batter or Resonant head. Evans makes things easier on everyone that way.
