Decent little violin for a beginner

I've been playing in community orchestras for 15 years, playing for longer than that, and have been teaching beginner violin students. I picked this up for a student who needed a 3/4 violin. After having read the reviews here, I knew I would probably need to use peg dope to make sure that the pegs would grip appropriately, and restrung the instrument. When played in tune, this instrument resonates very nicely and has a pretty little sound. If the tonality of the instrument is flattened (as opposed to flat pitch), double check your intonation. If it's good, there may be an issue with sound post placement, and you may want to take it in to a luthier to have the sound post adjusted, but when I worked with the instrument I picked up, it was a matter of finger placement. Some instruments are tricky and very sensitive to finger placement to get resonance. Note to novice players - new strings (even steel core) will stretch at first, so you will have tuning issues for a little bit when you get new strings. This is normal, and ok - just make sure to have a tuner nearby and check tuning pretty regularly. If it slips out of tune quickly after the strings have had some time to settle in, a) make sure that your strings are properly installed and hooked into the holes on the peg, and b) that your pegs are set appropriately. If your pegs are spinning even while pushed in OR are too sticky, get some "peg dope" (it looks a lot like a wide crayon). This will help keep things in place.

DO NOT BUY THIS

A good violin is never this cheap! EVER. Like the rest of the parents here, bought it for my kiddo. I couldn't get it to tune so I took it a school band shop. Bow was warped, and the instrument is just worthless. It is unplayable. Stop selling these please! Returned less in less than 24 hours.

We've only used the violin briefly, but it has everything needed at a great price. It comes with a sturdy case and rosin.

if you are looking for a beginner violin I would recommend spending a little extra on a quality instrument. The biggest problem that I have noticed with the Etude is that the violin does not hold its tune for long due to the tuning pegs constantly slipping/losing grip.

I bought this for my daughter. About a month and half later the bridge kept breaking. Now I'm outside of the return window and stuck with a broken violin because I was told oh well! Never buying anything from Guitar Center again.
