More trumpet players drop the instrument in the first year or two than in any other. Oftentimes, the reasons are as much mechanical as they are musical. With the Etude ETR-100, a satisfying bleat often pops out of the end of the horn within the first couple of attempts. Then, as the valves become less of a mystery, you can count on smooth action and precise note slotting.
And that's how it all begins. These little victories early on in a student's playing are critical to developing a generally positive association with the horn. If the trumpet is seen as an intimidating, uncooperative hunk of metal, practice time will create feelings of intimidation and irritation. If the trumpet is seen as that really cool-looking, really loud thing that my parents got for me, well, that's a different story altogether.
The Etude ETR-100 trumpet is built to be securely handled by small or inexperienced hands with a first-valve thumb saddle and an adjustable third-valve finger ring. These enhancements also make the Etude ETR-100 more comfortable to hold, allowing novice performers to pay more attention to intonation.
Etude includes a mouthpiece and case with every ETR-100 student trumpet, making it an even more outstanding value.

Thoroughly Surprised!
Hello, all! I purchased this trumpet based on the positive reviews that many fellow musicians have left on here, as well as other websites. I bought this trumpet because I wanted to begin playing trumpet once again after my six year hiatus. I used to play trumpet in elementary school through high school and have always either played 1st or 2nd Trumpet. I have often seen this trumpet labeled as a "great beginner's trumpet," but while it is, I also argue that it is a great trumpet in general (for the price). The sound is clear and the trumpet is very easy to blow through; even after six years of not playing, I was able to belt out a c above the staff within half of week of playing on this horn! The intonation is great and the tone is vibrant, maybe a little darker than some other student horns within this price range. The valves are pretty responsive, but the first valve occasionally needs more oil, but I believe that once I break in the valves, I will oil be able to oil them less often. Coupled with the Silent Brass System, I am now able to practice the trumpet in my apartment condo! I am very satisfied with Guitar Center's customer service as well.

I would not recommend.
At first, this trumpet seems like a great deal...and it is. But that changes. After my son played his for the first few weeks of lessons, I was thinking this was a great buy. No sooner did I think that, then his 1st valve started sticking. He would clean his trumpet after EVERY lesson, and oil the valves, so I was a little shocked. I cleaned it my self and still the valve would not rebound fast enough for even 1/8th notes. All of a sudden , the valve worked great. I figured it was just a minor particle that was stuck in the body or in the valve. 6 months later, the 2nd valve had issues sticking. Again, I disassembled it and cleaned it. However, the valve itself would NOT go back in the body. It simply would jam up about 1/4 the way in. I took it to a music shop for an estimate to fix it and they flat out told me it wouldn't matter. They tried to fix some ETUDEs in the past, but the metal in the valves is really poor quality. And the problem happened time and time again. Now, it sits as a decoration in my son's room...and he is playing a Getzen and has NOT had a single problem since.

This is not built to last with the rigor of middle school or high school bands. In the short term(1yr) it may survive, but will quickly deteriorate. Check with your band directors before purchasing. Renting a Bach is a better investment I.M.O.

This review was written on 26th Sept. 2020 Very pleased with this purchase, I had some reluctance due to lack of recent reviews. New in package, with an excellent finish in very clean condition, not oily, greasy, or stained. In appearance, this instrument rivals any high end brand, and possibly with more adjustments for child hands. Musicians friend pricing cannot be beat. very attractive trumpet If your student is in need of their first trumpet, this should be your first try for a perfect fit. Plays very well out of the box, valves move freely, with inlaid caps, it's "pretty" C Harlan Detroit MI
