Ernie Ball: The Colors of Rock 'N' Roll

The Ernie Ball Mighty Slinky 2228 electric guitar strings provide balanced tension and articulate tone. Sitting between Ernie Ball's popular Super Slinky and Extra Slinky gauges, the Mighty Slinky 2228 set is precision engineered to Ernie Ball's exacting standards for consistency, performance, and longevity. The nickel-plated steel wrap and tin-plated hex-shaped steel core deliver the iconic Slinky feel and bright, balanced tone that generations of players have relied on.
Precision-Balanced Tension for Fast, Even Response
With a gauge range of .0085 to .040, the Mighty Slinky 2228 set offers lighter string tension than standard gauges, enabling fast, articulate playing across all six strings. The precision balancing of each string's mass to its pitch results in an even, consistent feel as you play up and down the neck. Single notes ring out with bell-like clarity, and chords sound full and balanced.
Nickel-Plated Steel Wrap for Signature Slinky Tone
The Mighty Slinky 2228 electric guitar strings feature nickel-plated steel wrap wire, which provides the bright, crisp tone that Ernie Ball strings are known for. The nickel plating is carefully applied to ensure an even coat on the steel wire, which helps produce clear, balanced overtones and sustain. Combined with the tin-plated hex-shaped steel cores, the nickel-plated steel wrap gives the Mighty Slinky 2228 set a versatile, musical voice that works well for a variety of genres and playing styles.
String Gages Optimized for Comfort and Playability
With gauges of .0085 to .040, the Mighty Slinky 2228 set is ideal for comfortable, low-tension playing. The lighter string gauges make it easy to bend notes and play fast, articulate runs and riffs. The graduated gauges are optimized for balanced tension across all six strings, enabling dynamic, expressive performance. The Mighty Slinky 2228 set is a great choice for guitarists looking for a versatile set of strings with a slinky, musical feel.

I love Ernie Ball Slinky..I've tried so many different brands, most or all..Skinky just seems to hold the snap and sharp tone longest. I also can go two gigs, but prefer to change out after every show. I started using lighter gauge steins for more endurance on bends and even at 8.5 they still pop, but a lighter gauge pick, 1 mm or under is recommend to avoid breaks.
I would buy this item again.

All my guitars are Fender (25 1/2") scale length. I wanted a slinkier feel than the usual 9-42's but 8's are just too thin. This set is perfect for that. And any EB Slinky is great. These feel as good as any string that I've ever used. Reliable and long lasting.

8.5 to 40 I have evolved to lighter strings over time. Watch videos showing that heavy gauge strings don't seem to matter much on sound/tone for electric guitar. Perhaps they do for acoustic guitar - but this review is for ELECTRIC - right? I have searched and tried other 8.5 - 40s and although not disappointed, the Mighty Slinky 8.5 set delivers what I want.
What can I say? Ernie Ball!

I have been using Ernie Ball strings probably as long as I have been playing. The best part other than their quality is that they have strings for everyone. Over the years as my playing changed so di my strings. I started out using Slinkys, tried super Slinkys, then for years I enjoyed Light Top Heavy Bottom Slinkys and now I use Mighty Slinkys which are perfect for me. Ernie Ball is my go to for strings!
