Ernie Ball 2920 M-Steel Power Slinky Electric Guitar Strings

This is what metallurgy is about. At 72, I have played rock and roll, as well as other styles , for over fifty years. This Maraging steel alloy in a string gives the best volume, harmonic response and durability of anything I have encountered on an electric, and I'm going to try it on an acoustic:(more later.) The sound on a fender at light gauge ('ninezies') was so good that I immediately put them on all my fenders and gibsons (a half-dozen or so) with fantastic results. I read some reviews elsewhere expressing concern over fret wear issues with harder alloy strings, but I don't think any of us would have to worry about this in our life time.

My favorite strings

These strings sound amazing I bought two sets and put them on right after I got them. They locked into tune after playing them for a little bit going only ever so slightly out of tune after having to let it sit for nearly a week. The low end is much warmer than I had expected and the mid-range, where I tend to play a lot, was very pronounced and for lack of better words, in your face. Now here's the problem, I had the strings on my Les Paul for no longer than 2 weeks before the 'g' string or '4' string, whichever you prefer, began to unwind itself inside of the bridge! I thought maybe it was a fluke or possibly the bridge might have played a role in the problem so I put the Les Paul down and picked up my Ibanez which also had the same type of strings but a different gauge. Within a week after the Les Paul incident the EXACT same thing happened. Same issue with the same string. I may be upset about it but for right now I'm going to say I might have gotten a bad batch so I'm going to wait a while before I purchase this set of strings again. Until then, I'm going to be switching back to the good old Cobalts

Truly love them. The low end response is so much warmer and fuller than I had expected. Well worth the price for those of us who play everything from classic Sabbath to Pantera and Slayer! Would definitely recommend them!

I'd like to preface this review by stating that I play Blues Metal a la Black Sabbath and will be writing about the product accordingly. I walked in to my local Guitar Center to purchase a few items and noticed these as I was grabbing some picks. I read the specs on the back to check the frequency response of the strings and was a little skeptical at first. Increased decibel range and a better response in the hi-lo and mid frequencies?! I had just replaced my strings with some D'Addario XL Jazz Lights (.12-.52) and I was pleased with their overall sound, but my guitar still needed to be cleaned, so I said what the hell and bought them even with their "higher" price tag. Man, I can't begin to explain how awesome these strings are. They're LOUD, but in all the right ways. My brother has a custom kit, which can't help but drown out my playing. The frequency response on these is perfect as it helps the mid-high end of the guitar shine through and the wide boost at the low end acts as a "dither", boosting the gain on the guitar. The strings have some "gain" or bite right out of the packaging. I actually had to go back and reset the parameters on my amplifier to counteract the additional gain and bass boost. The "stickiness" of the string took some getting used to, but once I got a grip on it they were perfect for bends as it helped enhance my guitar's sustain. Honestly, I will now probably stay away from coated strings (ex/ Elixir) due to my experience with these. My last note to add would be the fact that these strings are very unforgiving and I would not recommend them for a novice/beginner player. You have to know how to handle your guitar to provide the best possible intonation in your signal. When I first tried them out, I was playing a bit sloppy due to the difference in feel and what some would consider "stiffness" of the strings, but once I broke them in my ears were sold. I have yet to try these in the recording studio, but my next session is this following Tuesday and I can honestly say that I am chomping at the bit to hear the difference in tone from previous recordings. As stated previously, I play heavier riffs with a lot of jazz style picking and I am beyond amazed at what the ear test is telling me. Do yourself a favor, buy these and try them out. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I bought 3 packs at my local GC this week, and am 100 % sold on these. Not only did I notice an increase in output, but I also noticed a significant improvement in tuning stability. I've played four shows in the last week, and kept the same set on my main PRS guitar. They still sound brand new, and I haven't had any reason to change them. Fantastic innovation EB....
