50+ years old and I bought this package 3 months ago because I wanted to start taking lessons and learn to play. The guitar and amp are nice, though I admittedly have no experience with anything else to compare them to. My instructor and the tech at Guitar Center both say they enjoyed playing with it. First the bad: I wouldn't buy this package deal just because of the 'extras'. The free lesson is some software you download. You get one lesson and then they want you to pay for the full version of the software. The strap is pretty thin and was the first thing I replaced, and the cord was producing a hum and had to be replaced as well. So if you're buying this pack because it's all in one, don't. You'll need to spend some more money fairly quickly. I also paid to have it setup properly as some of the strings were buzzing when I first got it home. The good: What a good looking guitar! It's a nicer model than a standard LP Special II and it plays easy and sounds good too. The amp sounds nice and has a cool distort channel to play with. It's a practice amp, you won't be taking it on stage, it does everything you need to practice with. The built in tuner is a very nice feature as well. It works great and you don't have to buy a separate tuner. I'm happy with what I have, but if I had a do over I'd probably buy everything separately since I ended up spending money to replace things anyway.

I've had this set up for over a year, even though it's my first actual guitar (I've played different ones over the years but never owned them), I know a good guitar from a bad one. I love the Les Pauls, but this guitar, just doesn't feel much like one, it is a great starter guitar, ad good for practicing. The strap I never used, and the amp is alright, but the top screw to hold the strap in keeps coming loose, in fact I dropped my guitar once due to that, and somewhat my last strap was old. The built in tuner is nice, though I have to tune It every time I pick the guitar up. I also get a lot of the fret buzz when I'm playing some riffs, and it gets annoying. I suggest this to a beginner, or someone looking for an expendable guitar. If you want something to play a little harder music, go for Schecter, a little more jamming, a Strat or something similar.

Excellent Value

Comments about Epiphone Slash "AFD" Les Paul Performance Pack:

The guitar is great and sounds very acceptable for its price range, and even better than many more expensive instruments. The amp is great for practice or mic'ed through a PA. There were no problems or flaws with this package. For the money, it suits both beginners and experienced players looking for an inexpensive guitar that plays well and sounds good. The tuner is easy to use and a big bonus. It feels and sounds like a Les Paul, because it really is. Kudos to Epiphone for over-delivering at this low price point.

Good feel and looks. Low quality everything else.

Comments about Epiphone Slash "AFD" Les Paul Performance Pack:

I love the guitar. The bolt on neck feels great, the picks up really sing and the guitar sounds great clean or OD. My Issues.. The tuners are cheap and needs to be re tuned every week, The shadow tuner stopped picking up sound the second day, The strap is trash and the amp cannot handle OD above 2 volume before it cuts in and out and stops working. Overall If I could go back I would buy a squire strat and a nicer combo amp. You really get what you pay for here. A beauty and a nice player but half the time I just jam acoustically because the amp is not worth messing with.

I haven't played in fifteen years. I decided to pick it up again. I could have spent more but I didn't know if I would continue to play. I am enjoying my time with this guitar. The guitar is the best part of this purchase. Easy to play, sounds good and built well. You will need to replace the amp. Throw the strap and cord away. Buy something nicer. I will buy a more expensive guitar in the future. I will still keep the slash les Paul.

Comments about Epiphone Slash "AFD" Les Paul Performance Pack:

Guitar looks fantastic, no blemishes. It's set up nicely and plays very comfortably right out of the box. The action is low, with no buzzing. The built-in tuner is a life-saver for beginners like me although it's holding it's tuning very well. The included gig bag, cable and strap are nothing fancy but they do the job.
The amp with it's 8" speaker and 15 watts is a good size for playing around the house. Again, it's nothing fancy. I've found the clean sound to be nice, but I have yet to dial in an distortion sound that I like. An external distortion pedal will probably be the best bet. Is the amp worth the extra $99 you pay over getting the guitar alone? Not really.
