Epiphone
Description

The Epiphone SG Traditional Pro gives a classic '60s design a modern makeover. Part of Epiphone's "Inspired by Gibson" collection, this SG combines mahogany construction with Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers for articulate tone with punch. Available with coil-splitting and phase switching, the Trad Pro SG can produce vintage PAF-style warmth or edgy hard rock grind.

Alnico Classic PRO Humbuckers Provide Versatile Tone

The Epiphone SG Trad Pro features a pair of Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers with Alnico V magnets, which offer higher output and tighter bass for aggressive tones. Push/pull volume pots activate coil splitting to simulate single-coil sounds, as well as phase switching for quacky, hollow tones. This pickup configuration yields vintage warmth, bright chime and everything in between.

Double-Cutaway Mahogany Body Offers Playability and Sustain

Like the original SG, the Trad Pro is crafted from mahogany, which provides a balanced tone with solid lows, warm mids and smooth highs. The double-cutaway body gives unimpeded access to 22 frets. A Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece further enhance sustain and allow for precise intonation adjustments.

Slim Neck Profile and Rolled Fretboard Edges Enable Fast Playing

Epiphone designed the Trad Pro SG with a SlimTaper neck and rolled fretboard edges for a fast, comfortable playing feel. An Indian laurel fretboard and trapezoid inlays provide an elegant visual accent. A Graph Tech NuBone nut helps produce balanced tone from string to string.

Premium Appointments and Vintage-Inspired Style

In addition to its sonic and ergonomic features, the Epiphone SG Trad Pro includes stylish touches like nickel hardware, a Kalamazoo-style headstock and black speed knobs. A vintage metallic gold finish gives a nod to the iconic guitars of the '60s era that shaped rock and roll. Overall, the Trad Pro SG delivers a compelling take on a historic classic.

Really nice guitar that punches above it´s weight

The short version is that this guitar is a great value proposition far beyond the "cheaper Gibson" stigma frequently associated with the brand. solid fnishing, electronics and pickups at a reasonable price for the quality. I bought this guitar at the Manhattan store and I really love it. The moment I saw the gold finish I thought it looked quite unique and beautiful, as far as my research, the gold finish is quite rare on SGs, more reserved to custom shop Gibson so that´s another plus on my book. I compared it side by side with a Gibson Standard 60s the staff very kindly let me play and even offered me to use another quieter room with bigger amps. Besides the finish being more refined and the initial setup, they weren´t that far off each other. The necks, frets and weight were very similar and to a normal guitar enthusiast (not brand fan) the biggest difference where the pickups, the off the rack set up, price and name on the headstock. The pickups on the Gibson sounded a little more rounded and overall clearer but the ones on the Epiphone sounded really nice as well, just the bridge pickup sounds a little thin clean but it cuts nicely distorted and has a lot of bite. I personally will leave the stock pickups on and explore the tonal posibilities (a ton considering the individual controls and split coil availability) before considering any upgrades. The store setup was not great with the action a little high and the strings already in used shape, not entirely unexpected given it was the one displayed on the wall, however it played without any fret buzz and didn´t have any sharp frets or noisy pots I could complain about and once I could set it up nicely it was playing and sounding even better. The customer experience was also very nice, the staff was really helpful and even helped my find the perfect case to travel safely on an airplane back home.

Excellent guitar, though pretty sure GC sent me a used one

Bought this one when it was on sale a while back. Great guitar at a great value. GC shipped it barely padded in an acoustic box with no other items and some fret wear was obvious when I changed the strings, so pretty sure they sent me a used one when I paid for new. Buyer beware.

This thing is awesome, I do recommend upgrading the pickups but it doesn't matter too much, The coil split is amazing and it looks great too, don't waste your money on a Gibson.i have it on 12s and keep it in drop C#

This Epiphone SG Trad Pro is a phenomenal guitar for the money. After I added some copper shielding to minimize the 60Hz him, this guitar's tone is amazing. It plays like a much more expensive guitar. This Epiphone has no business sounding or playing this good at this price point.

Gibson has come awfully far with there Epiphone line!! It's very difficult to really hear the difference between the Gibson SG and the "Epi" SH Traditional. The Sparkling Burgundy color is absolutely exquisite!
