Featured in the new Inspired by Gibson Collection, the Epiphone SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrola recreates the legendary Gibson model from 1961. Available at Guitar Center, the Epiphone SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrola is constructed from a solid mahogany body with a nitro gloss finish and features a solid mahogany neck. The Epiphone SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrola is also powered by two Burstbuckers and a newly designed, 60s-style Maestro Vibrola.

  • Mahogany body with a nitro gloss finish
  • SlimTaper mahogany neck, 22-fret, 12" radius Rosewood fretboard
  • Two Burstbucker humbucking pickups with 2 volumes, 2 tones and toggle switch (handwired with orange drop capacitors)

Mahogany Body with a Gloss finish

The Epiphone SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrola features the classic design that made it relevant, played and loved. Mirroring the classic Gibson model, the Epiphone SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrola is constructed from an all-mahogany body. The mahogany body offers a warm, rich and well-balanced tone, and a good amount of depth. Completing the mahogany body is a nitro gloss finish.

SlimTaper Neck Construction

The classic SlimTaper neck construction is popular among Guitar Center customers for its fast touch and smooth playability. With its design, the SlimTaper neck promotes speed while reducing player fatigue. It’s also made from mahogany, which extends the sonic depth of the mahogany body. It also includes a Rosewood fretboard that adds to the guitar’s vibrant tone, and a Graph Tech nut.

Powered by Dual Burstbuckers

The Epiphone SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrola is equipped with two Burstbucker humbucking pickups in the neck and bridge. These Burstbuckers were created to capture the original sound of humbuckers from 1961. They succeed at helping you capture that classic Gibson tone that players and Guitar Center customers have come to love.

Classic Gibson-Inspired Hardware

Rounding out the Epiphone SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrola are premium features such as the vintage-style Maestro Vibrola tremolo tailpiece, which provides expressive bends and warbles. The Epiphone SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrato is also equipped with an ABR-1 tune-o-matic bridge. The development of legendary Gibson president Ted McCarty in 1954, the ABR-1 tune-o-matic bridge set the standard for simplicity and functionality that hasn't been bettered.

Other notable specifications include Vintage Deluxe tuning machines with keystone buttons, medium-jumbo frets, acrylic trapezoid inlays and black top hat control knobs with silver reflector.

This guitar caught my eye at my local Guitar Center. They had just gotten it in 2 days before I visited the store. I played it in-store and immediately loved it! The neck has a great feel and I worked over the vibrola tremolo arm pretty good and the guitar stayed in tune really well. The mahogany body gave it that nice Gibson tone, just with an Epiphone price point. When I plugged it into my own rig at home I loved it even more! The pick-ups give a deep growl when I used distortion and a nice warm tone on a clean setting. This will for sure be one of my main gigging guitars going forward. My daughter has christened this guitar "Louie."

I used it at rehearsal and at a coffeehouse. Will use it at outdoor concerts as soon as weather changes. My friends said "You are the guitarman," after they heard me play the new 61SG.

I know it might require a little extra drilling, but could I install one of the big pick guard on this guitar?

If you want to do the work you can.

What is the weight of this guitar.

    Open Reply - Thomas
All guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Guitars are generally between 6 and 12 lbs. They can be more. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. This will be approximately 7.5 - 8.5 lbs

The inspired by Gibson 61SG with Maestro is listed as having 61r and 61t BurstBuckers. In the description it is listed this way several times. In the specifications section it is also listed this way as having 61 BurstBuckers. The only place it is different is in the features section where it reads pro bucker's. I would love to think burst bucker's are correct I have a feeling they're not and before I make a purchase I want to make sure what I'm getting because if it arrived and did not have burst bucker's well you'd be getting the guitar back. I'm still interested in the guitar I just want to make sure what I'm getting for the money and before I go putting a set of 61 burstbuckers in I don't want to have to pay for a second set if in fact it does have them in it. Anyway had to ask. Stay safe. Tony By the way I recently purchased the Joe Bonamassa 1960 Norm burst Les Paul all I can say is WoW and I can't wait for the 59' model. Epi knocked it out of the park.
